Default I thought I could do this

Every year we make a lot of cookies and sweet stuff to give away as gifts to
neighbors and friends. I really though I'd be ok with it sitting around
waiting for distribution and all the cooking to be completed. Duh. That
was a hugely wrong assumption. We have the best recipe for homemade caramel
corn with pecans(made with butter, no less). I resisted the cookies (those
yummy choc shortbread ones with the mint hershey kiss inside, among others)
and the fudge but that darned popcorn started calling my name around 6:00
PM. So, I have instructed my husband to treat me like a 4 year old and to
hide the stuff from me.

It is so frustrating to be under control all day and then to blow it so
quickly. I did buy some decaf coffee tonight so that when I get those
munchies around dinner, I can have a cup of coffee to give me something to
drink that will also warm me. Tomorrow is a new day, I suppose.

Hang in there, Elise. You can do it. Most of us do lose control (at
least) a few times during the holiday season. Cookies (and anything else
sweet) are my poison too.

Remember how bad it feels to blow a good day so quickly, but don't be hard
on yourself and feel TOO bad--just use it as motivation to make the next
day better. As long as you don't make a habit of cookie binges, then once
in awhile, though causing a minor setback, won't totally kill your
efforts. Try keeping sugarless gum, hard candies, and things like
Velamints (SF chocolate mints!) on hand to throw into your mouth when the
cookies are calling. It doesn't always work but it does help, even if it
just slows down the rate of cookie consumption.

Today's a new day, so here's to making it a good one.

-Alison, obviously psyching herself up for the cookie abundance here at
work after stupidly volunteering to bake and making six batches of cookie
dough last night

Elise,

It was very nice of you to try to maintain this tradition. I'm sorry to
hear that this kind gesture on your part ended up being a challenge to
your willpower. Sometimes things seem to be unreasonably tough :-(
