SBD frustration
I'm finding myself more and more frustrated w/ SBD. I know low-carb eating is
much better for me but Atkins is too low carb due to I'm breastfeeding. The book is written so poorly that I really don't see how people are able to follow it. Unless, they pay the $30 start up fee and $7 a month to have access to the SBD website. I'm also wondering w/ all the 'Brand Name' high cost foods if it's just a ploy to sell those foods. Anyway ... I'm too frustrated w/ this diet to continue. That doesn't mean I'm going to quit the YMCA or go pig out on a cheese cake lol .... But I know I need to find another way. Does anyone know how many carbs a breastfeeding mother needs? I can't find that info anywhere One Very Frustrated Kat ~Kat "Mom, sometimes you are a pain in my neck" ~DD 4 years old. |

Why don't you contact you doctor and find out. If you are dieting and
breastfeeding I think you doctor should be able to tell you what diet you can safely do. I personally wouldn't put myself on a diet while breastfeeding without my doctors approval. What does your doctor say? Why in heaven's name did you
start this without asking a doctor? How do you know you aren't hurting your baby? Jarkat2002 wrote: I'm finding myself more and more frustrated w/ SBD. I'm finding myself more and more frustrated w/ SBD. I know low-carb eating is much better for me but Atkins is too low carb due to I'm breastfeeding. You don't need to do induction to follow Atkins. In fact, except for the two weeks of induction, Atkins is a YMMV way of eating. There are no set number of carbs everyone should eat. There is no requirement that you eat animal protein or saturated fats. Why not eat the same number of carbs you were eating on SBD but follow Atkins? The book is written so poorly that I really don't see how people are able to follow it. Unless, they pay the $30 start up fee and $7 a month to have access to the SBD website. I've never read the book but I've heard several people say the same thing. I'm also wondering w/ all the 'Brand Name' high cost foods if it's just a ploy to sell those foods. Anyway ... I'm too frustrated w/ this diet to continue. No one needs to buy prepared food to do any low carb diet. If someone tells you otherwise they're just trying to sell high priced foods. Stick to the perimeter of the supermarket. Most of the foods you want are there. In other words, eat meat/poultry/fish, lots of greens, some oil, maybe some low glycemic fruits and you're doing low carb. Just make sure you're getting enough calories and a majority of your carbs from veggies. That doesn't mean I'm going to quit the YMCA or go pig out on a cheese cake lol ... But I know I need to find another way. Does anyone know how many carbs a breastfeeding mother needs? I can't find that info anywhere One Very Frustrated Kat No one 'needs' carbs. There is no RDA for carbs. Your body makes what it needs from protein. However, IMO, unless you have your doctor's approval you should probably eat a high enough amount so that you stay out of ketosis. How many carbs that requires is a YMMV thing. -- Jeri stargazer40 at hotmail dot com don't hit reply or I won't get the email 265/189/120 Atkins since 11/5/01 "Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right." |

Don't give up!!!!!! Giving up is not part of the plan OK - so you've just totally proven to me that SBD is just another fad/crap diet. It got some publicity and now everyone wants a piece of the new "miracle diet".... Bag it. Screw it. Lets start from scratch. Thanks. First - have you considered using something like Fitday? This might help you in finding trends and tracking your intake. This will help you adjust little things to find what works best. I just signed up I don't know the specifics on what foods to eat best for milk production. A woman I workout with at the Y just mentioned the other day some food her doc recommended that totally worked wonders on her milk production Oatmeal has that rep .. it worked for me when YD was just a few wks old. But, alas - parentitis and the fact that I have no desire to go through that again means I've blocked the actual food item from my memory. n/p Anyhow. We are here to help. We are here to work with you to figure out the answers. I'll gladly take a $30 registration fee and $7/month from you to give you advice, and I'll do it ina timely manner. That money you give me will go towards my wedding fund. :-) hehe ... are the plans set yet? I will always be glad that we 'ran away' to get married! lol Seriously. POST HERE. Heck - join in the "daily food & exercise threads". Will do. I guess I thought they were for long time posters. Post your food intake for the day. Be honest, brutally honest. If you had macncheese and hotdogs - we don't care. (well, we do... but most of us will make more helpful/healthful suggestions. We can work within the realms of SBD or some other low carb, not "no carb" diet. We can up your carbs, help you find carbs that are low in GI and give you better results. Don't give up hope or lose hope. Use ASD as the FREE tool its intended to be! Thanks for being so supportive JJ. Kat ~Kat "Mom, sometimes you are a pain in my neck" ~DD 4 years old. |

SBD frustration
Jarkat... You will feel some hunger and will have to actually *work*
on any diet, period. Some are more comfortable than others. But there is no magic "no-work" way to lose weight. You are suffering from your fat, why not *work* and *forgo* something while you are losing weight? I'm not looking for magic .. I know better. Having a plan or a diet structure to follow helps me tremendously. Being frustrated is normal. Fat does not fall off by itself. You try this and that diet, pay these or those people, but give up quickly. Try sticking to SBD for a while. I have found it's really not for me. How many carbs does a breastfeeding mother need? Try asking your pediatrician or a obgyn. I highly doubt that you need that much but obviously you need professional advice. Called today ... most docs that I have seen know VERY little about nutrition! I didn't get a very clear answer. Which brand name high cost foods are you referring to? Are they south beach sponsored bars, shakes and so on? Then I strongly advice you to not buy them as they are junk food no matter whose name is on them. Good food is neither expensive, nor hard to cook. They say that weight loss does not require willpower. It is bull****. agreed! Let me ask you, what exactly is your exercise regimen. How much are you actually *working* on improving your body and health, in terms of hours per day, honestly? I have just joined the YMCA, I had an appointment w/ the trainer yesterday and will have another one in 2 wks to see how it's going. I know I'm starting out slow ... but it's helping. I'll have to bring home my chart tomorrow, when I go to work out again. I leave it there so it doesn't get lost. There is no "easy, no-work" way to lose weight. But, being fat is not easy and it is a lot of work (to carry that fat) also. Suffering from heartburn and overeating is not fun either. And it hinders a persons ability to parent well. Fat people can't get around like thin people can. If I want to be an active parent and good roll model for my children .. I know I can't stay this way .. What are your vitals (weight, height age etc). I'm 35 5 ft 9 and have 60 lbs to lose. Please hang around here. i thanks. ~Kat "Mom, sometimes you are a pain in my neck" ~DD 4 years old. |
