I wonder what's in it? 3 grams of dietary fiber per serving is strange:
there shouldn't be any fiber in ice cream. Plus, who really eats 1/2 cup
of ice cream? My minimum is a cup. Even so, that's only 260 calories per
cup. I'd like to try it out and compare with homemade.

hmmph. My min is a pint (or whatever those containers hold -- that is a
pint, right?)!

I tried it last week. It's yummy! Very nice and creamy in the mouth.

However, I did limit myself to 1/2 a cup big sigh!

Default BREYERS LOW CARB ICE CREAM

Bob,

The fiber is something like guar gum--it gives it a certain mouthfeel.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Breyer's Ice Cream. I counted all the
carbs as carbs but it still comes in at a reasonable count if you don't eat
it with anything else carby. My blood sugar meter liked it just fine so
there don't seem to be hidden carbs.

The portion control issue IS the challenge. I measured out half a cup of ice
cream and have a little cup that fits it perfectly, and it is a reasonable
size for someone who isn't out of control with ice cream (as I am quite
capable of being g). But the problem is that it gets very easy to have a
serving here and a serving there and end up adding another 700 calories to
the weeks' total.

So far I'm doing okay with the half gallon I bought last Friday, but I know
that for me ice cream all too often sings a siren song from the freezer.

Other that the Wal-Mart super stores has anyone found this in the
Seattle...Auburn specifically...region, i.e., Fred Meyer, Albertsons, Tops,
Safeway? Also does it comes in pints, since I don't trust myself with a half
gallon?

Default BREYERS LOW CARB ICE CREAM

Hello Patricia & all;

Patricia, while I'm sure that you're sincere in your assessment, I must
disagree. Over the years, as an amateur wine taster, I have also managed to
nurture the ability to be discriminating on other foods as well.

I found the Breyers low carb ice cream to be as creamy and rich on the
palate as their regular ice creams. I'll agree that the flavor seems to be
a bit lacking, but after a month or so of LC'ing...I found it exquisitely
satisfying.

I wasn't there to taste the carton you're commenting upon, so I certainly
don't want to be seen as argumentative--only that my experiences seem to
have been different. The textures you reported seem to me to be similar to
an ice cream that's been improperly handled. Perhaps thawed & refrozen?
Left too long in a "frost-free" freezer? Poor production quality on that
batch? Hard to say...

Later all,
Dusty

The mouthfeel of the two I tried (vanilla and chocolate) wasn't very
creamy -- more like frozen whipped cream, or slightly crystallized ice
cream.

I didn't like it that much. Aside from the texture, the flavor is
pretty weak. I can see where it would appeal to people who are doing
strict Atkins (which I'm not, just watching carbs to control blood
sugar), but I prefer the SF Blue Bunny by far.

I just did a side-by-side tasting of Breyer's Low-Carb Vanilla and
their French Vanilla. There was a noticeable difference, but nowhere
near as much as I expected. The mouthfeel at first was very similar,
but the melting characteristics are different. Interestingly, the
low-carb version takes longer to melt and stays in the mouth longer.
There are several gums used in it, and they conspire to hold it
together longer. And they provide fiber.

I'll agree that the flavor seems to be

Yes. It is somewhat weaker than the French vanilla.

I bought the LC ice cream to test. My slender 12-year-old daughter
bought the FV. I tasted the LC as soon as we arrived home. It felt
fake then. Almost foamy. Very soft and light on flavor. It was
disappointing. Obviously, the transport time and raised temperature
didn't do well by it.

After a couple days in the freezer, I tried it again. Firm, solid.
Flavor seemed somehow to have intensified; can't explain it.

Today, it was fine. Compares very favorably with their top-of-the-line
French Vanilla. Stood up well in side-by-side tasting.

Pastorio

Later all,
Dusty

Tried it. Liked it a lot. Nice and creamy. Got it at my local Safeway
in San Fran.

My only complaint: why only chocolate, strawberry and vanilla? Are
those even the most popular flavors anymore?

My wishlist:
"cookie" dough
peanut butter cup (using sugar-free PB cups, obviously)
chocolate "brownie"
"caramel" nut swirl

Default BREYERS LOW CARB ICE CREAM

I was at my local HEB grocery store in Round Rock, TX and I saw a guy
stocking Breyers ice cream. He worked for Breyers not the grocery store.
He even had on a Breyers shirt. So I asked when that store would be
getting the new low carb ice cream and he had no idea that they were
making low carb ice cream!
