Who here kept weight off longest? To i :)

... I've had my own versions of all of those things. I've tried to explain to my husband how truly odd it feels -- but since he hasn't shared anything similar, he doesn't at all get it (and he gets tired of hearing about it very, very quickly!). One of the great things is that my new (since Jan.) boyfriend is really into eating well and exercising -- he has lost over 20 lbs. since we started dating, just from eating the way I do and walking -- and now biking. And he is totally thrilled with that and supportive of the lifestyle, both doing and talking about it. I realize I am lucky, because it would be hard for me to not be able to share that experience with someone. I realize I am not quite at my goal in order to be considered "in maintenance" -- but I think there's a hell of a lot to be said for someone who has kept off 100 lbs for 19 years, and is an additional 70-75 lbs. less than she was two years ago. If I do say so myself. :-) Your experience, as you write it here, is a great example of why I find comparisons to be useless. You've managed to maintain a loss of more than I've lost (and congratulations to you, there!), and your recent weight loss is precisely the same amount as the one I've been trying to maintain. Of course, you're a success, and of course, there's a lot to be said for you! Thank you -- the amount of weight you've lost is really life-changing -- when you've had a 70+ lb weight loss, so many doors open (or open again) and it can be a little overwhelming, eh? Plus the excruciating pain of being over 70 lb overweight gets a little dim, and so old habits that seem innocent enough can start to creep back in -- that's what I really have to watch for. As an aside, I feel pretty inconsequential in this group, over all. I have never considered you so -- I think you are a good example of weight loss and the willingness to try new things and staying honest about what is happening on the maintenance front. Mary |

No. Barbara has been at it at least 5 years, if I remember right. I can't open the post to refer to it right now, but I thought that the poster referred to JayJay and Jamie. I don't know about Jamie at all, but I'd thought that JayJay had entered maintenance after I did...but I can't keep track of her well because she's also been busily building muscles! FWIW, I reached goal weight on November 4, 1997, so it will be 7 years in a few months. I didn't gain any weight when my husband was sick, but I did lose a lot of muscle mass. My BF went from 20 percent to 24 percent. I'd also had a couple of bad rotator cuff injuries just before Marty got sick, and it was plain scary to lift weights with shoulders like that. This is why I started with a trainer, but now I will keep with him for the long term. My BF is now just about back to 20 percent, and who knows, I might even be able to get it to a point lower. ... You really *are* lucky. Sometimes, I feel totally at sea -- not only have I lost weight, but I dress differently, I've been wearing some makeup, I've started doing some physical activity on a regular basis (and even enjoying it!)...it's all very foreign. I feel at times like I'm reexperiencing adolescence, with all its "Who am I, anyway?" questions. I'd love to have someone to talk to, especially someone who understands. Well at least you know we are here for you! [beeswing wrote} As an aside, I feel pretty inconsequential in this group, over all. You are going to think me a big sap, but this brought tears to my eyes when I first read it. Thanks, Mary, for the vote of confidence. I needed it. You are more than welcome ((((((Beeswing))))) Mary |
