i , thank you I was blown over by your response but a nice compliment
is a real upper . I struggle EVERYDAY with my WOL/WOE as MOST of us here
do. I saved a pair of pants from when I was at my largest and they have
a 40 inch waist. I wore a size 24 & 1/2 woman dress and pants but now
I'm one size away from my smallest size which is a 14 misses pant and
12 dress. Since coming here I now don't weigh myself very often but
rather I go by sizes which took me a LONG HARD TIME I hope that many
here will respond to this thread! It is good to see how well so many
have done . Carol & Jay Jay are only two who are very successful. Amy is
also

Barbara Hirsch is very successful and I'm sure there are others around
who don't post on a regular basis, like Jamie.

: How long do you have to be successful to be considered "very
successful"? I'd
: have to think hard on how long I've been on maintenance, but I do
know offhand
: that it's been somewhat over a year and a half now.

: beeswing

i was wondering the same thing!
LOL!

who is "less successful" than you or Barbara but is loving every
moment of being at normal weight.
Aw, don't give me that! Congrats on your success. Isn't it kewl to feel
better (and look better) and to be able to do more things (or the same
things, but much more easily)?

I feel the same -- and it often feels surreal -- like when I pick up a pair of my
pants that are size 8 instead of 26 ... or looking in the mirror and thinking "Not
bad!" instead of "Oh God!" ... or being able to *ride a bike* ... or catching a
glimpse in a store window and not quite recognizing it's me (in a good way, not like
the old bad way). I realize I am not quite at my goal in order to be considered "in
maintenance" -- but I think there's a hell of a lot to be said for someone who has
kept off 100 lbs for 19 years, and is an additional 70-75 lbs. less than she was two
years ago. If I do say so myself. :-)

I've had my own versions of all of those things. I've tried to explain to my
husband how truly odd it feels -- but since he hasn't shared anything similar,
he doesn't at all get it (and he gets tired of hearing about it very, very
quickly!).

One of the great things is that my new (since Jan.) boyfriend is really into eating
well and exercising -- he has lost over 20 lbs. since we started dating, just from
eating the way I do and walking -- and now biking. And he is totally thrilled with
that and supportive of the lifestyle, both doing and talking about it. I realize I am
lucky, because it would be hard for me to not be able to share that experience with
someone.

I realize I am not quite at my goal in order to be considered "in

Your experience, as you write it here, is a great example of why I find
comparisons to be useless. You've managed to maintain a loss of more than I've
lost (and congratulations to you, there!), and your recent weight loss is
precisely the same amount as the one I've been trying to maintain. Of course,
you're a success, and of course, there's a lot to be said for you!

Thank you -- the amount of weight you've lost is really life-changing -- when you've
had a 70+ lb weight loss, so many doors open (or open again) and it can be a little
overwhelming, eh? Plus the excruciating pain of being over 70 lb overweight gets a
little dim, and so old habits that seem innocent enough can start to creep back in --
that's what I really have to watch for.

As an aside, I feel pretty inconsequential in this group, over all.

I have never considered you so -- I think you are a good example of weight loss and
the willingness to try new things and staying honest about what is happening on the
maintenance front.

Mary
