Are you considering body building or weight training?

There are many benefits from weight training and yoga. I wouldn't forgo
weight training based on what Arnold looks like today.....I believe he
was a
body builder.

People doing Body Building....

I want to start with something that has a long term effect. People who
stay healthy at a longer run.

You're confusing body building and regular weight training

short term happiness and a long time problem

I see the bodybuilding lifestyle as more complete
compared to yoga. Nothing is more effective at
producing positive physical change. True bodybuilding
is a system of four parts: resistance work, aerobic
work, flexibility work, and specialized nutrition.
Practical visualization and spiritual components are
often part of it as well. Anything that will help,
within the boundaries of ones morality, can be included.

But, I needed to know the long term effects of the same.

I've seen Arnold recently.. and I've seen few regular yoga
practitioners at their old age.. ...

Looks to be doing Yoga is a better option...

What's wrong with the way Arnold looks at 60?

In any case, a Mr. Olympia winner is not suggestive
of a drug-free, genetically typical bodybuilding
enthusiast. Here's a link to a more realistic
example:http://tinyurl.com/2ksnt4
The man is 66 and in fine condition. I like the
John Hansen quote: "Murrell Hall is what bodybuilding
is all about." If you were 25% as serious about it
you'd do just fine.

This is a good example for sure.. I think I will need to read more
about body building and its long term effects..

If this guy can be fit after 66 any one can...

If you honestly think that weight training will result in you looking
like Arnold you need to distinguish the difference between body
building and regular weight training recommended by most health care
providers. Women especially need to include some form of weight
resistance training to prevent osteoporosis, lose body fat, etc.

Yoga and Pilates are great exercises and I've done both of them. I
get most of my exercise from cycling but include weight training, yoga
and walking, too. Cross-training has a lot of benefits.

Don't overlook resistance training because you have the fear of
looking like Arnold. He was a "body builder" He trained for hours
each day and like many others he may have taken substances to enhance
his training. This is not "weight training".

Besides killfiling you? No. I'm pretty sure at this point you are a troll.

I'm beginning to think the same, det

Someone who thinks doing a little weight training will result in
looking like Arnold needs to do a liitle research on the subject.

Remember, this person is from another country, another culture and another
educational system. English is not his first language either.

You won't look like Arnold from body building.

You could certainly benefit from a combination of weight training and cardio
training. (example, running for cardio, lifting weights for weight
training. Run for 1/2 an hour then spend 1/2 an hour working out with
resistance or weights, this will build up endurance, stamina, has beneficial
health benefits and will also burn calories so you can lose weight. Do this
4 to 5 times a week and you'll see a big difference.)

Bottom line is, you need to find an exercise routine that you enjoy. If
you don't enjoy it you won't do it.

That's a really good question. Why not take a nice long walk and think about
it?

Well I don't think walking alone and thinking alone will solve the
problem. It is good that I discuss problems with people who already
have experienced the problems and have justified answers. I think
USENET is a good place.

I do find my answers here...

It might! It depends how far you walk and how often. You can burn hundreds
of calories a day if you walk a lot. That, alone, may solve your problem.

Here is a link for you:

And, from what I've heard, the long term effects of walking are pretty damn
good.

"Walking alone" meaning one. Hike without other people
around. Difficult to achieve in a densely populated city in
a literal sense; easy to achieve if you only count the people
around you who are walking together with you for the same
purpose at the same time.

"Walking alone" meaning two. Hike as your only form of
tracked exercise program. Easy to achieve in a densely
populated city, or anywhere else.
