i bought low carb food-pasta, bran crisps...etc,
Hey there!
I bought some low carb food today. I got low carb cereal, pasta, marinara sauce, and bran crispbread. I had been waiting to buy this kind of food for awhile now. Since I am almost to the maintanance phase, I figured it would not hurt There are no sugar alcohols in the foods. I made sure to steer clear of those. The bran stuff I got tastes like triscuits. It has 3carbs (3 carbs of dietary fiber). Anyway, I pretty much devoured the majority of the package, because I have not had any bread/cracker-type products in a long time. Will this harm me, since the effective carb count is 0? Yes, I know I have one lb left, so it may not seem like a big deal, but even with maintanance I must be wary of these types of foods. Kerri,
Brancrisps are labeled using the European method in which the carb count given has already deducted the fiber. So the 3 gms is the actual carb count of each cracker. That said, I love them and have eaten one or two every day throughout my 32+ pound weight loss journey. The fiber is useful and they make a nice platform for lots of low carb treats. Finally, now that you are nearing goal, don't get phobic about pushing your carbs up a ittle. Even if you ate 30 gms of carbs by accident yesterday, it will not derail your weight loss or your maintenance. I'm at still 138 lbs this morning and my average daily carb intake for the past month has been 55 gm (after deducting fiber.) There have been a few days when I've eaten as much as 100 grams. What I am careful about is total calories. I am finding that keeping calories low is just as significant for maintaining a lower new weight than carbs. When I up the carbs I will gain a predictable 2 or 3 pounds of water, but when I cycle back to a lower carb regimen, they come right off. -- Jenny 168.5/137 Low Carb 9/1998 - 8/2001 and 11/10/02 - Now http://www.geocities.com/jenny_the_bean How to calculate your need for protein * How much people really lose each month * Water Weight Gain & Loss * The "Two Gram Cure" for Hunger Cravings * Characteristics of Successful Dieters * Indispensible Low Carb Treats * Should You Count that Low Impact Carb? * Curing Ketobreath * Exercise Starting from Zero * NEW!
