This week I lost 3 lbs. I have noticed a great improvement in my ability to
stay on my eating plan since I stopped taking prozac. I have many theories
for this, but do not advocate anyone else stopping their meds. I was taking
it for OCD and I am able, from time to time, to not take it. When my little
quirks take over my life again, I know it is time to restart.(yes, this is
all done through my doctor). In the meantime, I thought that after such a
good week, I would go out to dinner with a friend. Turns out, she had to
work late so I went with my husband, which is fun too. I planned for the
dinner calorie wise all day and I made two changes: Did not have a
pre-dinner cocktail (a real sacrifice because I do like the treat of a
martini when I go out) and did not even allow the waiter to put the bread
basket on the table. That was a real sacrifice because this restaurant
doesn't just serve crummy bread but a selection of "homemade" breads in
about 5 different kinds per basket. I love bread. I knew I would have
nibbled my way through it since my husband can take it or leave it. Plus, I
only ate 1/2 the dinner which was more than sufficient to fill me up. Oh,
yes Friday is lobster bisque night at this restaurant and I did have a bowl
of that, because what is a trip to Artie's without that? So, all in all I
was happy that I was able to control the situation in a manner that I
usually don't bother to do when going out. Elise

Way to go, Elise! I know what a challenge it is for you to pass up
that bread basket :-).

I've never tried Artie's lobster bisque -- will have to do that
sometime.

Chris (who's going to Ruth's Chris next Monday night for dinner, sushi
at Kawata on Tuesday with Ahmed (wanna come, Elise? 4:00), lunch with
Elise on Wednesday, and Inn at Little Washington on Friday -- major
splurge next week :-) )

Three pounds is fantastic...congratulations. I'm another who has a hard
time passing on the bread basket and usually ask the server to not bring it
to the table. If I feel I absolutely have to have bread I ask them to bring
just one roll.

I hope that I can show the same kind of restraint when I finally get to eat
at a restaurant again (coming soon). It's good that you were able to let
yourself enjoy at least one thing and control the rest of the environment.
We have a place we go with excellent home made bread and I've decided that
when they open again next summer and we go, I'm going to ask them to only
bring half the amount they normally do

Keep up the good work!

Jenn
