Why dieters are so stupid
To Lady Vet especially - this'll explain what you've always
suspected. Robin ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- http://www.abc.net.au/science/news/h...sh_1105852.htm Dieting and exams don't mix Jacquie van Santen ABC Science Online Tuesday, 11 May 2004 Go on, have another. Dieting at exam time may take your thoughts away from study If you've got exams coming up and want to perform at your peak, then new research suggests you shouldn't diet. Australian research shows that dieters are more forgetful when it comes to carrying out some complex cognitive tasks. It seems that some of their memory space is taken up thoughts of food, weight and body image. PhD student Jacqueline Shaw and Professor Marika Tiggemann from Adelaide's Flinders University publish their research in the latest issue of the British Journal of Health Psychology. Tiggemann said memory consisted of a 'central executive' that acted as memory headquarters to tell two 'slave systems' what to do. One of the slave systems looks after hearing and verbal tasks, the other is a visual spatial 'sketch pad'. Scientists know that dieting affects cognitive performance. Previous research had identified that it was the central executive and verbal and auditory system, but not the visual system, that are affected most by dieting. The Australian study confirmed the verbal and auditory system finding. The researchers divided 92 female university students into three groups: those currently on a diet, those who had dieted in the past and those who had never dieted. The students then performed a series of cognitive tasks, such as tests recalling sequences of short and long words. The researchers found that those currently dieting struggled with complex verbal tasks. "You would think that dieting doesn't have much to do with verbal type things. But our study showed that when people were doing a task and then had to say something like numbers at the same time it affected their performance," Tiggemann said. Interestingly, only those who were currently dieting were affected; those who had once dieted performed on par with those who had never dieted. The researchers said this indicated it was the dieting behaviour itself that contributed to the poorer performance. Professor Tiggemann said the study findings were consistent with the idea that it was dieters' preoccupying thoughts that led to poorer memory performance. |

Dieting is for self-loathing idiots who are literally mutilating their bodies in a feeble attempt to conform to an arbitrary, unrealistic societal ideal. OTOH, fat acceptance is all about self-love. Fat people are happier and MUCH healthier than thin people. Either you are a troll or are highly delusional. Overweight people may be as happy as thin versions, but they are at much greater risk for illness earlier on in life. SS |

I am out of breath when I climb the stairs from my basement to the bedrooms. I have to take a golf cart to play a round of golf because I can't walk 9 holes let alone 18. Why dieters are so stupid
On other newsgroups I read, we call people like this
cowardly liars. They have to put out an abusive message, and they're afraid of getting reported to their ISPs and having their accounts cancelled, so they hide behind anonymous remailers. |

Why dieters are so stupid
Oh, I forgot to mention, my father died at Christmas 3 years ago. He was 70
years old. He had been fat for a good many years. The official report said his heart failed, he had diabetes and emphasema (forgive my spelling). I loved my father dearly and was game to follow him anywhere, except there. I quit smoking after 30 years and now I'm losing the weight. Yep, he was definitely happy and healthy. -- Heather http://www.maritimeanimalrescue.com LCing since 4/20/04 270/256/150 "Heather d'Entremont" wrote in message ... "Big Betty" wrote in message ... People who whine and complain about their situation and do nothing about can't be serious about ANYTHING. I am almost positive she was not referring to whiners and complainers. You are a distinct MINORITY among fat people and for some reason the idiots listen to you and hold you up as the stereotypical poster for their ****ty propaganda. How do you feel about that?
