Default weigh in and exercise ?

Well, last night was weigh in for Mom and Me. Mom lost 2.something
last week and I'm down 9.2 lbs since we started.

It's such a high when we lose and it is motivating, I hope when we
don't lose (and I know it will happen) we don't get discouraged. I
guess that's what the group is for, to keep each other motivated.

I have trouble fitting exercise in my day, especially how cold it's
been lately here. I have a treadmill and thought that would be easier,
but I find it's not safe with my son around (he has special needs, and
I don't get away from him often). Anyways, a woman at the meeting last
night was talking about a tape called "Walk away the Pounds" or
something like that. I guess it's a walking in place video---safe,
plus they have it for different distances (a 1 mile tape, a 2 mile
tape etc) Has anyone heard of this? What do you think? She has 2 yr
old triplets (imagine) and she has time to do it, so I thought it might
work for me.

Congrats on your weight loss. Give your Mom my congrats too.

I have the 3 tape set of Walk Away the Pounds and the stretchie bands
that come with it think it's excellent. The first tape is 15 minutes
long and represents 1 mile. Near the end of the tape is an upper body
workout with the bands. The second tape is 30 minutes and 2 miles.
The third tape is 45 minutes and 3 miles.

When I first got the tapes about 2 years ago I progressed until I
could do the 45 minute tape. Now just starting out again I'm only
able to do 7 minutes of the first tape (1/2 mile). I will slowly
improve. I'm 67, out of shape and have chronic lung disease. My
lungs are at 40% and the tapes as I progressed helped my breathing
until some days I didn't need my inhaler.

The tapes can be found he

Default weigh in and exercise ?

I used the one mile tape when I first joined WW, a year and a half ago.
At that time I was 268 lbs and I could barely do 10 minutes of the
tape. But I kept trying and after about a month (and after losing 10
lbs) the tape got pretty easy for me. I neved got the more advanced
tapes because I go to Curves now and I also walk on a treadmill. But
that first 20 minute, 1 mile tape, was what got me started moving. If
I still had it I would give it to you, but I gave it to someone else
who really needs to lose weight. Unfortunately, I know this person
never used it.

you are right to be cautious with the treadmill. My sister's friend's
toddler got a 3rd degree burn from getting her arm under the belt, happened
in seconds.
Hope you can find a way to exercise round the little one. I have 3 younger
kids, 12, 8 and 5 and I find I can swim with them now, I lap up and down the
short kids pool and touch base with them every 30 seconds or so. The older
two are swimming and the little guy keeps his armbands on and rides the
woggle. Sometimes he and I "cycle" up the pool on the woggle while singing
"bicycle" by Queen very loudly, much to the fake horror of the other two :-)
When I bring my older special needs 15 year old however I find I need to be
constantly with her so it is her time rather than shared.
Hope you find a creative way to exercise together. How old is your child,
would a racing buggy/stroller work perhaps? or a bike with a trailer? If
your child is still small enough you could consider a play pen with a lot of
special only for there toys and you could treadmill iin the same room. Will
15 minutes parked in front of a kiddy video work? Hard to make good
suggestions as I don't know how old/able your little one is.
Don't forget babysitters and calling in favours from family members. People
will usually help but only if they are asked.

Thanks for all your responses. My son is 4 and has ADHD so he doesn't
stay still, ever, he also has other issues we are working with several
Drs about. I am primarily concerned with his activity level and
need/desire to be directly under my feet. We do walk and ride bikes
but I sometimes need something a bit more intensive. I got a call this
morning from Mom and she told me that she and Dad went out and bought
the "Walking away the Pounds" video for me. It's not something that
Mom wants to do but I've been looking for some tapes for "mature"
people for her. She mentioned one from Richard Simmons that she saw
years ago and wished she bought, I'll start looking for that. Thanks
everyone again for all the advise.
