it's so cold that...
No school today! My thermometer read -28 and then there's the 15-25 MPH
wind. Still had to take the dog for her walk though. There's no cloud cover so the aurora borealis are visible. I stopped to watch for a while (dog ran around and did her thing) because it is quite hypnotic until the pain from the cold got me back into this world. So what does one do with an unexpected gift of a day off and no DH for the rest of the week? Before the weight loss I would have gone back to bed after walking the dog, woke up eventually and cooked a massive breakfast. Then I would have gone into work for a bit to catch up on grades, ordered pizza or gone for some other huge lunch, then maybe go out with whoever showed up at work for drinks and greasy stuff, come home and watch tv all night. Today's plan? Shake and fruit for breakfast as usual. Heading to the gym to lift this morning instead of this afternoon and doing an hour of elliptical instead of 20 min. Shower, heading to work to catch up on grades for a few hours - fridge is full of raw veggies to snack on. Lunch time will be a short walk on the treadmill, then home for some veggie/boca chili already made and planned for the day. The temp is supposed to be -20 all day long so outdoor stuff is out of the question. I'll spend the afternoon roasting a few squashes while doing housework. Have another shake this afternoon and head out for kickboxing aerobics this evening as planned, then eat a light dinner of spaghetti squash w/fresh tomatoes, garlic, & boca. I'm sticking with my original plan of a meatless low calorie day and adding an hour of light-med activity, not including the housework. Another difference is that instead of getting calls from people wanting to go for coffee and pastry, I just got a call from another teacher who needs a ride to the gym because her car won't start. She said she *knew* I'd be getting ready to go early... Have a good day people! Jenn When life gives you lemonade...drink up! |

That is a lot of exercise! Do you work out like that every day or just when
you have the day *off*? What is the coldest it gets there? I am looking at my weatherbug and it says that it is 41 out now. I am shivering just thinking about it. -- Email me at: perpleglow(AT)comcast.net http://community.webshots.com/user/perpleglow "JMA" wrote in message ... No school today! Sounds like a great day! Not the temps - just your activities. We seldom
get below zero around here but we'll be close tonight as they're predicting a blast of artic air with a low of 4. Could we talk about you northerners keeping your artic air at home and not letting it loose on usg Beverly - who is not looking forward to the near zero temps tonight "JMA" wrote in message ... I am shivering just thinking about it. -- Email me at: perpleglow(AT)comcast.net http://community.webshots.com/user/perpleglow I don't work out that much on a normal day because of work. I was planning to do the class tonight as a lark. Normally I have yoga on Thursday nights but the teacher is taking off until mid-Feb. My normal workout schedule is to run 3-4 times a week alternating long, semi-long, and recovery runs (9-10 mi, 4-5 mi, 2-3 mi). On days I don't run I try to do an hour of cardio (elliptical or "hill" walking). I also do my weight training 3 times a week so I may kill 20 minutes of the cardio as a warmup to the weight training. I also do 20 min of yoga every morning and have a 90 min class once a week (most weeks). Finally, I play volleyball once a week on a 6-person team. It's movement and I run around shagging balls, but it's not all that. I take one day (Tuesday) as an easy day where I don't have the elliptical set to a high level or the treadmill incline set too high. I keep my heart rate down to 60%. I watch TV while doing it and don't do intervals or crank it at all. I've just found that I need to move every single day. I fuel my body appropriately and I haven't had any fatigue or injury problems. BTW, DH called and informed me that our thermometer reads 5 degrees warmer than the actual temp because it is on the house and gets some warmth from the building so it is more than -30 this AM. This is about as cold as it gets here. Jenn gotta go! |

minus 20???? There ought to be a law! And you're voluntarily leaving your
house? Couldn't you appreciate the aurora borealis through a window? We are complaining because our highs are in the 60's and the lows in the 30's. A couple of times lately, we got as low as the 20's. It was a mad rush to bring in plants and turn off water so we wouldn't suffer. I thought of moving south but that would require taking up residence on an island that isn't part of the US and I'm not licensed to work outside the country. j "JMA" wrote in message ... One of the new neighbors put in some dumbass flood light that he leaves burning all night and the light pollution from that thing is beginning to impede the show. Not only do we voluntarily leave the house, but the fitness center had 5 of us on 5 machines in shorts with sports bras or tank tops, and we opened the window. I had to bring my car home to sit in the garage for a while and warm up before I can go in to work this afternoon. Jenn |

No school today! fabulous plan snipped It all sounds wunnerful, Jenn! I know you've enjoyed every minute. We got up to 30 degrees and I decided that 4 inches of snow was enough to get out on the snowshoes! I took my Newfie for a mile and a half loop. She was less than thrilled but it was just great - I'm still requesting more snow, though. sigh Last year we were hip deep. -- Walking on . . . Laurie in Maine 207/110 60 inches of attitude!
