Default Least I've Ever Eaten on Thanksgiving

Well for all the resolve I had to eat sensibly yesterday, I didn't end up
needing that resolve at all! Ended up with a short-lived case of food
poisoning Wednesday night due to eating turkey that was probably a day older
than it should have been (because of my particular allergies, I'm not
supposed to eat any cooked foods stored more than 3 days in the fridge, and
this was probably day 4). It's been so long since I've gotten that sick that
I kind of forgot about the 3-day limit and the turkey seemed fine to me
(poor excuse, I know).

Was violently ill all Wednesday night and became so weak that I nearly
passed out in the shower Thurs. a.m. -- insisted on going to my brother's
for dinner anyway so that my Mom and BF would have somewhere to go (it's a
little more than an hour drive) ... so I had a half-cup of orange juice in
the morning to help get my blood sugar levels back up, along with a piece of
dry toast. Then for dinner, 2 cans of diet cream soda (I haven't had pop
since 1998, but this was medicinal because it really helped settle my
stomach), maybe an ounce of turkey, half a spoon of stuffing, maybe a
tablespoon of mashed potatoes, half a small roll, two plain green beans and
then maybe about five hours later, when I was feeling a lot better, a
half-piece of sugarfree pumpkin pie.

Terrible way to lose weight, and I am so happy to be feeling better today!
Still, I did cancel this morning's weight training workout because I didn't
think I should be pushing myself that hard so soon after being sick. A light
walk later will be just the thing. All in all, it was a good Thanksgiving
because I did really enjoy being with my family (especially my youngest
nephew whom I don't get to see that often). Hope you all had a good day!

Scary stuff. I greatly sympathise with you wrt your food poisoning. I
did almost pass out in the bathroom about a month ago due to food
poisoning, as well. i fell on the floor but did not completely pass
out. Not the best way to start thanksgiving holidays!

No, it wasn't! I definitely reached my goal of not being overstuffed! Food
poisoning is awful, but at least it goes away pretty quickly -- I once had a
bout that lasted three days and I never did pinpoint the cause -- but
usually I am OK the next day. Glad this was one of those times!

I know it takes a few days to bounce back completely from the whole food
poisoning thing. I have a lot of turkey left over (intentionally) and just
finished putting it into single servings and into the freezer in order to
avoid the same thing happening to me. The dinner was very pleasant and
surprisingly not stressful - it was the first time I cooked for my in-laws
and all went without a hitch.

I'm sorry, Mary -- that's definitely not the way you want to diet :-).
I'm glad you're feeling better today!

Once when I was in grad school I had food poisoning for about three
days -- we also never figured out why, though a couple of other people
on campus (whom I didn't know) had it as well. The problem was, it
gave me a sort of mental aversion to food and for the next 3-4 weeks I
consumed nothing but Coca Cola -- which at least gave me some calories
and was the only thing that didn't make me feel ill when I thought
about it. I lost quite a bit of weight, but it came back gradually as
I began gradually eating again. (Definitely not a recommended diet
strategy, for a whole lot of reasons. :-) .)
