Default Dieting Truths

One of life's mysteries is how a 2 pound box of candy can make a woman gain
5 lbs.

Skinny people irritate me! Especially when they say things like, "You know,
sometimes I just forget to eat." Now I've forgotten my address, my mother's
maiden name, and my keys. But I've never forgotten to eat. You have to be a
special kind of stupid to forget to eat.

I know what Victoria's Secret is. The secret is that nobody older than 30
can fit into their stuff.

I gave up jogging for my health when my thighs kept rubbing together and
setting my pantyhose on fire.

One that I hear almost every day at work: "I forgot to take my break!".

2 lbs of candy + 3 lbs of water retained = 5 lbs net

Remember, when you weigh your body, you're not weighing fat. You're
weighing fat, bone, water, the particular contents of your stomach,
and the particular contents of your bowels. Plenty of variability
there. If the bounce isn't more than a few pounds, it's negligible.

You have to be a
special kind of stupid to forget to eat.

Or busy, or [excuse of preference]. What's it to you if other people
happen to live a life that's not yours? That's no good reason for
hate.

I gave up

It's a little more poignant when you trim the rest of the filler away.

Dieting is hard. The experience of being overweight is hard. But
it's just another human trial, and the same fortitude that leads
people through other trials is necessary to overcome it.

Not stupid, just more interested in other things. My SO forgets to eat then
complains when he starts feeling bad and complains that he has lost weight.

And yet people who can do that assume that everyone can and
post crap like moderation is the key. Idiots, if moderation worked
there would be no fat people. I'ts not like there's a single fat
person in the world who hasn't tried moderation and eventually
got overcome by endless nagging hunger.

What it's to me is the noise and nonsense it generates.

Part of why I'm such a big low carb fan is I am able to lose
without hunger while low carbing. A week or two of hunger to
clean my body out of stored glycogen carbs until the cravings
turn off, then without hunger most of the way down towards
my ideal weight range. Sigh, if only lack of hunger and easy
to stay on meant hard to fall off. Even with low carb, going
over a certain carb intake level means turning on the cravings
all over again. Find a system that's hard to fall off of and
you'll be in the Forbes 400.

That's no good reason for hate.

"Never attribute to malice what can adequately by explained
by incompetence". This suggests that the morons who post
what appears to be hate is actually just flawed logic by folks
without the intellectual capacity to figure out something as
simple as the fact that the malls are filled with fat people
means the simple and obvious doesn't work. Ah if that level
of reasoning only applied to the trolls who post fatty insults ...

Moderation DOES work. It's just really really hard for a lot of
people.

Take any diet and strip away the goofy particulars, and you're left
with the same principle:
"force a deficit and the body will meet homeostasis requirements by
metabolizing parts of itself"

If you were locked in a prison cell and given a limited amount of food
every day that ended up being LESS than your daily requirement, you
would lose weight.

When you add things like hunger, availability, and will into the
equation, it starts to look like moderation doesn't work, because of
human weakness.

Moderation and "really really hard" are NOT the same thing. This
is not a difficult concept. You're plpaying a word game that is
very transparently nonsense.

Moderation works for some. Others try to play games as to what
moderation should mean as a game to make it work. Nope, not
what it means.

Find a way to lose without hunger and you've found a program
that works for you. For me that's a low carb plan. Find a way to
stick to your plan year after after and what you're doing isn't
going to be moderate. It will have hard and fast rules of what is
and isn't on your plan. Break those rules and risk a relapse.

I find it easy to maintain my weight by avoiding high carb products and
doing a little walking.
I feel energetic and clear headed.

Recently fell of the rules and gorged on cakes, muffins for the last week
and now feeling tired and confused.
Back to crashing at 3PM for a power nap too.

Need to get back on track and get off this high carb addiction!

Of course. You're right, and I'm wrong.

Default Dieting Truths

I agree Doug,
Every time I hear crap like this on tv I get a little angry. These tv
people treat us like idiots. Of course we know that moderation will
cause me to lose weight. Of course we know that running a calorie
deficit will cause me to lose weight.

I have been low carbing it since 1999. I am finally in a place, after a
lifetime of fad diets, where I feel comfortable.

I started low carb because my wife was diagnosed with type 2. I decided
after what I saw in her improvement to share her no carb diet. After
three days of hell, I felt the best I had in 20 years.

After a year, I was unable to keep up the no carb regimen. I went to low
carb. That means for me, no bread, pasta, fruit, grains, or any other
simple or complex carbohydrates. I eat lots of very complex
carbohydrates. It was easy for me to maintain this regimen because I am
not hungry and because I know how I felt eating lots of carbs. Hi carb
makes you feel 20 years older.

My wife has perfectly normal blood glucose levels without taking any
medications. Her health made a dramatic improvement. Her doctor told her
that eating no carb would kill her in six months. Well, it is 10 years
down the road and she is very healthy. I did not mean to say she has
been on no carb for 10 years. She started eating some very complex
carbohydrates after a couple of years of huge weight loss.
