CRASHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!
The sound you just heard is that of a **4 year** stall breaking.
It's 6 years ago today that I started my LC journey. As many of the 'old timers' know, it's never been easy for me. My body was seemingly very reluctant to give up the excess weight and after 14 months just quit doing it entirely. I even managed to regain more than half of what I'd lost, despite sticking to my eating plan. No amount of stallbusting seemed to help, from drinking oil to eating less and exercising more. Fat Fasting, Meat Fasting, even Elimination Diets didn't do a thing for me. Eventually I decided that I was sticking with this for the health benefits - like improved kidney function, improved asthma, increased energy, control of my diabetes T2 - rather than for any weight loss dreams. After experimenting, I found that sticking to about 1500-1800 cals./day and 30 - 50g carbs I could maintain comfortably without feeling deprived. Yet now, I've been steadily losing weight for the past 6 weeks WITHOUT changing that plan. What *was* maintenance level has suddenly changed to loss level! There's only one thing that has changed in that time. 2 months ago, I spent a night in hospital being investigated for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. I've been a chronic snorer all my life and it's been getting worse since I got so very ill late last year. It's not positional for me - I can snore almost as loudly lying on my stomach as I can on my back! As many of you are aware, interrupted sleep can increase insulin resistance which can make attempts at losing weight very difficult. 6 weeks ago, I got the results. I have mild-to-moderate apnoea, not quite bad enough to treat with a cpap device but still bad enough to cause me problems. My doctor suggested that raising the head of the bed a little can give some relief as it allows gravity to help keep the throat open. For various reasons, raising the actual bed wasn't an option, so I invested a few dollars into a triangular 'posture pillow' to help lift my shoulders and head up when I sleep. DH told me that my snoring was dramatically better from the first night. I was only loud when lying on my back, and that was merely 'annoying' rather than 'have the windows cracked yet'. It took me a while to get used to the new position but I persevered because of the noise reduction. I was pretty sure it wasn't going to do anything else for me. So you can imagine my surprise when I jumped on the scales for my 2-weekly weigh in and found I'd dumped 4kg (almost 9 lb) in that 2 weeks. I was pretty sure it was some kind of a fluke (although both sets of scales we have in the house confirmed it) that wouldn't last. As of today, I've lost 8kg (17 1/2 lb) in 6 weeks. I've ALSO lost 2" from my bust, 2" from my waist and 3" from my hips. My clothes are fitting differently - what were my most comfortable jeans are now risky to wear without a belt, since the weight of my keys in the pocket causes them to start sliding, while my 'Gosh, is it time to do the laundry already' jeans a size smaller are slightly loose. Casual acquaintances are starting to ask me quietly if I'm losing weight. It's like a miracle! Here I am, eating at what I though was my maintenance levels and yet I've started to lose, far more rapidly that I did even in my first few weeks on Atkins back in late May 1998. For the first time I'm starting to have hope that I've found one of the last, important pieces in the puzzle for MY body. I know that this DOESN'T mean I can give up my Plan. I know I have a LLLOOONNNGGG way to go before I can announce Goal. It will take a lot of work to finally get there. I'm confident that I WILL get there, now. Aramanth |

I'm really impressed. I've had complaints about my night time concerto's
too! My doc wanted me to lose weight before he would do any tests. I'm going to go back next month. I think I'll pick up a new pillow like yours in the meantime. Sounds like the extra oxygen in your body has really made a fantastic difference. Congrat's on your loses! You didn't say, are you close to goal now??? It's more than changing your pillow.
Aramanth had a sleep study done in a medical setting to determine how invasive the sleep apnea was. Sleep apnea can be a life threatening disease. Don't just get a pillow, if you think there is a problem... demand your doctor test you. Waiting until you lose the amount of weight he thinks is right, might be damaging you now. You can always be tested again after weight loss. Don't weight. Jennifer JCD wrote: I'm really impressed. I've had complaints about my night time concerto's too!
