post induction stall
In article , )
says... I don't see how I can eat too much food. 4 eggs and bacon for breakfast is 490 calories. i even cut the bacon out the past week because of the "feared" nitrates. 2 burgers for dinner is 560 calories. If I had a nice steak I don't eat burgers that day. I'm eating about 1500-1700 calories a day. Maybe it's the steaks. They're not absolutely huge steaks, and I use no sauces. Maybe it's the splenda. But the thought of drinking only water is cringe-inducing. Now splenda is "feared" as well as the bacon. Way too restricting. I used Splenda all the time during my weight loss phase and also drink at least one cup of (decaf) coffee a day and don't seem to have any problems with it. I don't think I want to do this if I have to cut off my splenda. I just can't drink only water and not have my decaf coffee. I drink a water, then I have a flavored water. To me, it's a big jump from sodas all day. I've already cut bread, rice, pasta, sugar, sodas, diet sodas. If I have to cut splenda too, that's just too much because I just can't only drink water. Maybe i'll go back on low calorie, because a few years ago i got my weight down to 152 by drinking diet soda, eating crackers, and doing dance dance revolution. I've had no weight loss in two weeks, not three. i started at 172. after 12 days i was 165 and after 19 days 162. now after 31 days i'm still 162. the only things i've added are the "greens" such as green beans and salad. the diet worked better when i ate only tunafish and hamburger. i can't have a steak? Sure you can have steak. Just pay attention to the portions. Do you have a food/postal scale to keep track of how much you are taking in? Eyeballing it isn't really enough if you don't have a good visual handle on what a piece of meat ACTUALLY weighs. You could be taking in more than you think. Another thing to consider is that the first couple of weeks are about getting into ketosis. A considerable portion of what you lose then is water that is dumped from the liver as you use up the glycogen store before going into ketosis. After that, the weight loss slows down -- THAT is what the 3-week stall is really about -- it's not a stall at all, it's just that your body is then turning to fat for fuel, which takes a little longer to lose. 1-2 lbs/week is good. I realize you haven't lost anything for two weeks, but it could just be a matter of fine-tuning things like sodium and portion size. Also, when are you weighing? The best time is first thing in the morning, naked, after the morning pee. That way you'll get the most consistent measurement because you will always have been fasting for many hours and the body does a lot of housekeeping during the night that can contribute to weight loss (or gain). Any other weighing during the day after you've been eating/drinking/peeing/pooping will be less consistent. -- Saffire 205/140/135-140 (aka JUST RIGHT!) Try killing the Splenda. What's supposed to be the problem with Splenda? Many of us use it and this is about the first time I've seen it implicated in folks not losing weight. It can stall some people. It will kill ketosis for me. Every time... Not true for everybody but if you are seriously insulin resistant like I am, it can. Switch to sacharrin if you can stand it. The first thing I note here is that there really is no real problem to fix at this point. The OP, has not lost weight for only 2 consecutive weeks. That doesn't meet Atkins definition of a stall. Just about everyone doing LC has this happen. Plus, the OP is weight training, so it's possible fat is being turned into muscle. Were any measurements taken? 3 weeks. Not 2. That's too long. starting: 172 week1: 165 week2: 162 week3: 162 week4: 162 Better check your math. The OP reached 162 at week2 and stayed at that weight for 2 weeks. That is 2 weeks, not 3. As for even 3 weeks being too long, Dr. Atkins defined a stall as 4 weeks without loss of either weight or inchs without a change in excercise, eating habits, etc. I'm comfortable with that definition and see no need to start foolling around with what one is doing just because the scale hasn't moves for TWO weeks. I do agree with the advice to watch portion size and not eat more than necessary. It is easy to underestimate calorie intake, and despite rumors, total calories still count on the Atkins diet. -- Peace!
