Hey Dewolla... sounds good. You may want to try Swanson's reduced sodium
broth. It has 33 -50% less sodium then regular broth and tastes pretty darn
good. I used to eat it all of the time before I got burned out on it!

Yay! I made a whole, healthy dinner for my family and I had no

complaints!

Mondays we have our daughter and her SO over for dinner. Yesterday I
roasted a chicken seasoned with rosemary, mashed potatoes with no butter

or
salt, gravy from a can of nonfat chicken stock, steamed broccoli and a

green
salad. Everyone loved it! I've been trying to control the sodium we're
eating (the diet software really brought to light just HOW much sodium I'd
been consuming!) and except for the canned broth I did very well.

I could have eaten the whole chicken, and in the past would've picked the
carcass clean when everyone else was out of the kitchen and I was doing

the
dishes. Not this time! I had one drumstick, no skin, and filled up on

the
salad and broccoli.

Had nonfat yogurt and an orange for dessert, yesterday was a good day!

I'll look for it! thanks.

It's amazing, having shopped for groceries for decades, how much I need to
learn! Think I'll spend a whole day at the market and read labels!

Congratulations on making healthy food normal and not some sad,
restrictive "diet stuff" !

Hello Dewolla,

Congrats on the successful dinner. If I could only learn to cook!

Exactly. It's all about following directions, preparation and practice.

Now, there are some cookbooks that are better than others. I would suggest
for the beginner or someone honing up on their skills the following:

Joy of Cooking
How to Cook Without a Book
The Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook
How to Cook Everything

Those are a great start!

Do you prefer a particular edition, Martha?

Hmm...I have my mom's from the 60s and then I have a newer one from just a
few years ago. I like them both, so I would say the latest edition is fine.
It's my very favorite cookbook, it really has everything and it
exceptionally well-written.

I collect cookbooks. I have over 400. Some of them are just a good read and
not great to follow recipes. Some have awesome pictures and are more
coffeetable type books. While others are greta cookbooks. JofC is the best.
