Default Keeping yourself motivated

Hi again!
Ever since starting this new WOL I'm always on the alert for those gems
to help keep things more entertaining and moving in the right direction.

For example, a neighbor recently joked that she always buys a new set of
dinner plates every time she goes on a diet. Well, I don't know about
the practicality of buying new dishes every time, but her comment
inspired me to buy a couple of really fun triangular plates.

They're different, and pretty, and the perfect size to accommodate our
new smaller portions. I mentioned before that I love healthy cooking
now, I think those plates have a lot to do with it. Lol! Makes serving
dinner a whole heck of a lot of fun!

Do you have a favorite thing (to have or do) that helps to keep you
motivated? Care to share?

Amy

After a shower, before getting dressed, I look at myself in the mirror. I
need no more motivation than that. ;o)

I know what you mean! Congrats!

And it reminds me of something else I get a kick out of:

I like to look at the line up of jeans I've set up in the den. As I
move out of one size and into the next smaller size, I place the larger
pair next to the one before. So far I have 3 identical pairs of jeans
ranging from size 20 to size 16. I hope to be hanging up the current
14's soon. When that happens, I'll be looking into having the
collection bronzed, or shellacked, or something. Lol!

The dishes are a cute idea. So is a really pretty glass for water--a
woman in the office has the loveliest hand-blown glass to drink her
water. I would carry it to the water cooler just to show it off.

Trying new recipes, picking up new or different items from the grocery
store or farmers market, taking an exercise or cooking class, or taking
half-nekkid pictures all help me stay motivated. I've been doing this
for a very long time, so I really need to shake things up every once in
a while.

Good luck to you! Sounds like you're headed in the right direction.

Maybe it's too obvious, but when I was losing weight, I would purposely
buy clothes that were too small for me....a lot of them, then set the
more immediate goal of fitting into them. I played this game for over a
year and it was a good motivator going from size 44 to 28 waist...but
an 85 lb loss will do that. I saved a couple of jeans from my fat days
and get them out to entertain myself and my family from time to time.
Since the weight loss was gradual, nobody in my family noticed the
dramatic results, but one look at my driver's license tells all. PS: I
gave away all those larger sizes, many of which had only been worn once
or twice, but that was another good feeling giving such nice clothes to
Goodwill. dkw

LOL!!!! D I haven't got my jeans lined up, but did start another bag
for the Goodwill store. I take a Junior 11/12 (depending on cut) right
now - down from a woman's 18 when I weighed 208. The first donated bags
went some months ago! If I hadn't broke my leg/knee I would now be my goal
weight. Meanwhile the mirror is handy.

One of my old neighbors ended up like that. I run into her at Wal-Mart
occasionally. She has to be 400+ lbs and can no longer work. She's on SSD
because of her size. A neighbor brings her to the store in a van. She told
me she turned to food for comfort after her husband left her. Very sad
case. She still has two 1/2 grown children at home.

That's where all my larger sizes went with another large bag started. I
kept one size 18 pants suit just to remind myself where I once was. I still
have many of my Mediums saved from before the hypo' problem. Some of them
already fit!!!!! ))) I wish I would have kept all the smaller jeans as
well.

I have done just that. All the new fall stuff is out, and I bought pants in
my current size and the next size down. I have also lined up all my clothes
in stacks by size... Once upon a time, I was a size 4. So I have 10, 8, 6,
and 4. I did have 14 and 12, but I got rid of those just as soon as they
were too big!
