Default F*ck

I've been on Induction for the past 10 days, and I didn't read my DANDR
closely enough. I've been putting balsamic vinegar on my salad for the
past 3-5 days, which I now know is a no-no. I assume that doesn't mean
I have to restart Induction, right... just be`more strict with carbs
over the next 2-3 days?

It is in the nature of vinegar that one cannot drink cups of it. Quantity
is as important as what one is eating. A generous sprinkling of vinegar
might total 5 carbs. I wouldn't worry about it.

Also, I started low carb by shooting for 50 carbs per day. A few months
later I tightened things up to about 28 net carbs per day. My loss of carb
cravings might have come faster, if I had followed Atkins' induction, but
maybe not.

I'm a bit concerned that it is implicit in your post that you are eagerly
awaiting the opportunity to increase your carbs (and be done with
induction). To be effective, low carb needs to be a new way of life. There
are those that stay with induction-like levels.

I think the most important facet of induction is the weaning of sugar use
and dependency. So, you had too many carbs. So long as you are getting rid
of the cravings for sugar and similar high glycemic foods (such as baked
potatoes), you are making progress. You may think that after induction you
can add back all the sugary foods you've missed, but, if you are typical,
you won't want those sugary foods. And, indeed, they may taste strange to
you!

Exactly how strict do you want to be with yourself?

It is easy to call Induction a bootcamp that needs to
be done correctly and if you get something wrong the
clock gets set back to zero. Do you want to be that
strict with youself? If so then do that. It is a
judgement call on just how big a mistake it takes to
be required to set the clock back to zero. You're
the only one that can really make that choice.

To you is it an example of no-harm-no-foul? Or to
you is it something you are really worried about?

Some perspective: Lots of people need to be pressured
to exit Induction and move on to OWL. Here you have
formal permission to extend Induction several days and
call it the right thing to do. You wanna take
advantage or that permission or not? Your call
entirely.

Balsamic vinegar might be the only type that's high
carb. That's the real stuff thats $20+ per bottle.
How dilute is the stuff you used? Degree of dilution
matters. Consider it this way: Sugar is forbidden
during Induction yet there is a max of 3 packets of
artificial sweetener. The problem is packets use a
type of sugar as filler so that 3 packet limit can
mean 3 grams of sugar yet sugar is forbidden. See
how it becomes a judgement call? You are now in one
of those judgement calls.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Regarding your concerns, I think you must mean that in OTHER posts, I
was rather explicit about my desire to increase my carb intake. I
definitely like salad and fruit, and frankly, I want to have that take
up a larger share of my daily caloric intake, and soon. I hope to
dabble in some whole-grain products down the line, in of course limited
quantities.

In terms of the negatives, my previous habits included candy (too
much of it), chips, saltines, and lots of assorted processed
flour-and-sugar containing items. That, I don't want to go back to. My
daily candy habit in particular was disgusting.

So yes, I want more carbs in my life. I dearly miss fruit. I also
wanna drop some pounds. Beyond that, I think I've been pretty explicit
in how I've been taking all this low-carb stuff.
