Well, today at the gym I weighed in at 162 -- 100 lbs. down from my
start weight. This is sooner than I expected, but it's due to a
couple of unusual factors. First, I've been eating a fair bit less
for the last week or so because I wanted to be sure of making weight
for my meet this coming Sunday. This was easier because I've been
sick (my cold is still with me). Second, I've been trying to watch
the sodium in my diet very carefully to keep down the water weight,
and doing some steam rooms sessions (mainly to help with the chest
congestion, but it also flushes out water).

After the meet I will probably temporarily put a pound or two back on
-- especially since I plan a refeed on Sunday and Monday :-). But I'm
definitely counting this as my 100 lb. milestone! (And anything I
gain after the meet will be temporary.)

No particular celebrations planned. I certainly can't celebrate with
food until after the meet, and don't feel much like it anyway since I
don't feel too well. One thing I do have to think about is whether I
want to continue losing right now. Ahmed thinks I should stay here --
not just temporarily but permanently. A quote from him, when I said
that I still have a lot of fat around the middle: "You have just the
right amount of fat to feed your muscle." (Not very scientific, I'm
sure!) Tom thinks I should stay here through the spring while I'm
building strength and doing a few meets, and then maybe resume losing
if I want to. I, on the other hand, would like to get to the point
where I feel I'm "done" and then stay there, as it would be nice to
rebuild my wardrobe with clothes that all fit and that will continue
to fit. I'm pretty happy with my size but don't think I'm quite
satisfied yet.

Anyway, I'm happy :-)

Chris, I'm so happy for you. I felt quite emotional when I saw your
subject line.
There's a limit to how many different ways I can word the admiration I
have for you, but well done anyway!

Chris - that is fabulous. I am surprised I didn't hear any war whoops when
you weighed in the gym - although I was probably lost in space at the time
getting my massage. Take care of that cold. See you Saturday. Elise.

I'd have told you if I'd seen you :-). I totally forgot you were
getting a massage, and I guess so did Stuart. Everyone was looking
for you because BJ was locked out.

I'm feeling a little better this morning. I'll stay home, though, and
do some work here. I'd rather not be out in this weather.

See you Saturday!

That is awesome, Chris! I am happy for you as well. I bet this was a very

"right"?

I don't know. I'm wondering if I'll know when I get there. I am
really quite happy with where I am now, but think I could lose a bit
more. I don't pay any attention to the charts and stuff, and I know I
don't want to get too low or I would be giving up too much muscle.

I also know that more weight loss isn't going to entirely take care of
the flab, since much of it is loose flesh. So I can't sort of think I
can keep going until I have an ideal body, because I never will.
(Anyway, at my age few people do :-) .)

I might just see where 1500 calories a day takes me, and stop there.
I think it won't take me too much lower, but I could be wrong.

Thanks to all who've replied. In some ways it doesn't seem like that
big a deal, but it is a lot of weight, isn't it? I'm happy :-).

Do you think you would ever get surgery to help with the loose skin??

I doubt it, but you never know. Mine isn't that severe, really. I
don't have an apron, fortunately -- never had that big a belly, I
guess. None of it is really apparent in normal clothing -- perhaps
the thighs a bit in shorts, but not too bad. Women my age (56 in a
few months) aren't usually into showing all that much skin, anyway
:-).

Try putting on a 100 lbs backpack and walk with it for a little bit of
time, just to see if you miss your original weight

i

Well, I probably won't actually try that, but I've walked around the
gym a bit with two 50 lb. DBs, and I wouldn't want to do that for
long. I never really considered missing the weight, anyway :-).

Wow, so let me get this straight: you ate less every day and exercised
more every day and kept it up for a year or two and now you weigh a
bunch less? Who'd have thought it?

Seriously, you're great for posting exactly how you did it. No magic,
just day after day doing what you need to do. Thanks for the inspiration.

Dally (who hasn't gotten to the gym yet today)
