Well today I made the commitment to start atkin's once again. After a
few months of continiusly falling off the wagon I decided to give it
another go.

I would like to ask one thing of this group tho if you don't mind.

Being the only 1 in a family of 4 doing this I would appreciate all
the positive feedback that you can give so I don't fall off again.

I managed to do this last summer and took of 40 pounds and managed to
keep 30 of it off but would like to lose another 40.

Thanx

Mike

You may get better support using a Yahoo email group for support. there are
hundreds of low carb groups. Some of them specialize in particular diets,
like Atkins, and some are regional.

I'm also the only low-carber here, and I do most of the cooking too.

I guess... I just don't think of some stuff as available food anymore.
I bought the glalon of ice cream, I put it in the freezer, and I don't
"see" it when I'm looking for somehting to eat... it's not for me.

It helps that no one here eats my absolute favorite stuff either.
There's at least a couple items I'd have difficulty ignoring completly.

Newbie tip: Read the FAQ. It's posted here daily, contains tons of
great info on low-carbing and lots of links to more great info and tons
of recipes too!

Hi Mike,

I'm in the same boat. I need to lose about 40lbs. I lost 30 last year on
Atkins and gained most of it back. I'm approaching my 40th B-Day in August
and would really like to get my act together before then.

I started a Low Carb Community at www.lowcarbideas.com to keep me focused
and motivated.
This just started and I have an Atkins forum there if you would like to join
us.

Hang in there!
Look to yourself first for support. Read and look at other success stories
(many out there) to keep the fire burning.
The weight loss is a by product of the way of life. It's a long term deal
and I'm just now learning this myself.

Yes, this is a good perspective.
Food habits and choices need to be developed over a lifetime.

Hi Mike,

I am also re-starting Atkins again. I am also on my own doing this. I guess
there are some things that I could tell you to help you. 1. Sit down with your
family and tell them that you need their help on this. My husband is very
supportive; he keeps all his little snacks and stuff in the car or comes home
and puts it straight into "his cabinet" so I don't pay attention to it. 2.
Have you own low carb cabinet. Have cabinet space all your own that has your
stuff in it so they won't eat it up. I keep all my lc stuff in my cabinet and
hubby knows, touch and get things chopped off! lol! 3.At first, if you can;'t
handle it, when your family is eating carby stuff, make yourself scarce.
Meaning, go somewhere til they are done. 4. Exercise. That really helps; it
really helps when you are craving. 5. Desire and self examination. What it all
really boils down to is this: how much do you want to lose weight and what has
been stopping you?? You have to do some searching in yourself and discover if
you really, REALLY want to do it this time. This time, my desire is totally
different versus the last few times I tried. Also weight loss is not just
about fat, it is about what is *making* you fat in the first place. Until you
deal with why you eat, and face it, no plan will work. Good luck, Mike! You
can do it!

You'll never make it.

And I forgot to add, go to Lowcarbfriends.com and look around there. It is the
best low carb site around. It has a recipe room with great recipes, BB's
(bulletin boards) that are great for keeping you on track, and a chat room
that is pretty much open 24/7. Almost any time of night, you can go in there
and find support. I have gone in at 3 or 4 am to talk to folks just to not
late night snack. The Bulletin Boards are great; they have challenges that you
can join to keep yourself accountable.

Well, you KNOW you can do it, Mike! And, at least for me, it's
hardest in the beginning.
