Default atkins shake - yuck, how about u?

i love the atkins shakes in a can, they are good and make me full, but
they are expensive.

so i bought the atkins shake at walmart in powder form, i think it was
their last brand, they may have a new one out.

i made it according to the instructions, and YUCK!!! it was terrible.

anyone have any ideas to make it taste better? recipe's, etc...
or anyone have any thing they drink besides atkins that is cheaper?

thx.

Here's what I do with it: I make a smoothie with milk, yogurt, frozen fruit,
and a scoop or two of the chocolate Atkins shake mix.

Check the Atkins website or do a Google search - lots of variations using
flavored syrups (DaVinci;Toriani, etc.) or mix it into coffee or make a
smoothie.

I like the flavor a little better of the KETO brand mixes, but still $$.
How much was the Atkins powder? I usually see it for ~$22.

I just looked at the various Protein Powders and Drink Mixes at Trader Joes,
e.g. CarbSmart Vanilla/Chocolate. I haven't tried any yet, but they were
all $7.99 a can. I did not check to see how many servings they were by
comparison, but the cans look to be the same size as Atkins, etc.

I know someone who uses cream and water instead of just water. They claim
it tastes better.

It's been several years since I tried Atkins shake mix. As I recall,
I found it rather underflavored and undersweetened, but not foul.
A dash of DaVinci SF syrup (or some flavor extract and sweetener)
and a dash of heavy cream to thicken perks it up.

Designer Protein (whey) shake mix is one that is cheaper than Atkins
and usually people like it, although most people like to doctor it
up a little, too.

Beware of some of the bargain brands of whey protein mix. I don't
remember any names, but some that I tried had an aftertaste resembling
spoiled milk or cheese. I didn't like any that were based on soy
protein.

I don't make shakes very often, but I often use dried egg white powder
for protein (Just Whites, from the baking aisle of supermarkets),
and add my own flavorings and sweeteners. A scoop of cottage cheese
can also be used for protein in a shake -- but you have to find a
brand that isn't salty (Breakstone is one I use). I'm also daring
enough to use a raw egg, because I like the taste -- the risk of
salmonella is something like 1 in 20,000 eggs, provided they've been
kept properly cold.

I agree that the Atkins liquid ones taste much better. For dry shake
mix, the Carb Solutions ones are better. Even better is to make a
shake with soft tofu and either LC milk or unsweetened soy milk and
flavoring syrup.

the one i bought was the strawberry.

like i said, if i buy the 4 cans pre-made they are great. so i bought
the big can that makes several servings to save some money.

i'll try making the smoothie. it's just this expensive experimenting,
only to throw it away becz i can't drink it, it's the whey taste that
is overbearing. but when atkins pre-makes it for you, it tastes fine.
