Is Addiction possible
Here's my delema. I feel burned out with diets. It seems like I'll
never succeed. I am 61 and feel because of the pain I'm having, that there isn't anything else I can do. Whats frustrating is the more pain I have, the more I eat. It could be that it is the food irrating it, Don't know yet. I'm not feeling sorry for myself, just feel like I can't get through a day without eating too much. We are talking lots of weight here. I am 232 pounds. Where do I start. The weight might be the problem I can't stand, yet I eat, knowing this. Anybody got any suggestions where to start? |

Is Addiction possible
Hi Blue!
Diets don't work...they are temporary and ultimately set us up for failure. I would start with something like Weight Watchers. I don't use them, but I hear they do really good things for people just starting out. They can help you set up an eating plan and a new WOE (way of eating). Rather than think of it as a diet, think of it as a Lifestyle Change". I had to do that. I had to think of how I wanted to live and eat for the rest of my life. I can never go back to bingeing or picking the kinds of foods that will harm me rather than help me. Blue wrote: Here's my delema. I feel burned out with diets. It seems like I'll never succeed. As was mentioned in a previous post, Weight Watchers might be a good starting point for you. I used WW years ago to lose weight and have used many of the methods they taught me to maintain that weight loss. I was just a little younger than you when I initailly lost my weight. I was 54 and soon to celebrate my 64th birthday. Don't think of this as just another diet. It has to be a lifestyle change - one that will result in weight loss and improvement of your health situation. Why not try changing just one or two things at a time until you've reached your goal. Take a look at your regular diet and eliminate any high calorie foods such as soft drinks (regular not diet), white bread, junk foods, etc. It can be very overwhelming if we try to change everything from day one..... It could be that it is the food irrating it, Don't know yet. I'm not feeling sorry for myself, just feel like I can't get through a day without eating too much. Could you if the pain was managed in some other way? We are talking lots of weight here. I am 232 pounds. Where do I start. Start with the pain. Find some other way to manage it. Restricting carbohydrate is what does that. When in ketosis hunger is minimal, cravings are vastly reduced, and very often there's an improved sense of well being that can allow one to step back and evaluate other issues in their life with less stress. Just a suggestion. -- |
