LA Weightloss
I've never been to this group before - hi all! You guys look very
interesting and good for me I'm going to a place called LA Weightloss tomorrow http://www.laweightloss.com and talking to them about what they do. I've been to weigh****chers and didn't stick with it. Has anyone been to this place before? I wonder if there's been any successes (besides the ones they provide!). I was reading down through the posts and saw mention of pizza and beer - I think I'll have some of each tonight before I crack down on it Thanks for being here & sharing... Mary |

Have you worked with your doctor? Did he give you a referral to a registered dietitian or state-licensed nutritionist? If not, then you need a different doctor. Apply the same standards to LAW. Who are you working with? What is their training? Look at their diplomas. Check their school out on the web. If they don't have state licensing as nutritionists and they aren't registered dietitians, they shouldn't be advising you on eating. What tests are they going to run while you pay them money? If they won't be checking cholesterol and triglycerides and other blood chemicals, how will they know you are healthy? What do they say about exercise? Do they have training as sports instructors? If not, why not? If they don't tell you to exercise, leave. You can't be healthy without exercise. Do they want you to buy supplements? What is in the supplements? Get a printout of the values. Take them to the store and check the price of the supplements against a bottle of Centrum. Then consider two facts. One is that clinical studies show that anti-oxidants and fiber from supplements are less effective than getting them from food. The other is that megadoses of all nutrients can cause problems. If you didn't stick with weigh watchers, why not? The chances are the same thing will happen with LA Weightloss. Did you ever join a gym? Did you stick with that? If not, then your pattern is not to stay with anything. Why go to the expense? If you want to be healthy, you have to exercise and you have to eat portions that are limited in size and number from a wide variety of high fiber low fat food. You can do this on about $2500 in food and $200 in shoe-leather per year. Now look at what LAW will charge you. Why spend the money? First learn to stick with whatever program you start. Then if your health doesn't improved, work with your doctor first. "Mary E. Hill" wrote in message ... I've never been to this group before - hi all! I used to WORK there, if that counts. LA Weightloss is much the same as any weighloss company. They tell you what to do, show you how to do it and then it is up to YOU. If you are motivated to lose, you will, and if you aren't - you won't. Trouble is - if you are motivated to lose you don't need LA Weightloss. You can get the same information from any library or probably a zillion websites on line. There is no magic wand that they wave that makes you lose weight. It is all up to your following their diet and sticking to it. Their diet plans are based on calorie intake (surprise!) just like most other sensible weightloss plans. They also have "snacks" that they require you to eat which, surprise again! they sell. Those snacks are nothing more than meal or snack replacements and, again, have no magic effect on the diet. But it makes them a pretty penny to require them as part of the diet and sell them as a pretty price, if I recall. They will give you the hard-sell (there was a lot of emphasis on SALES there, as I recell). Really you are better off saving the cash and doing your own research as to a low-cal diet plan (with exercise, of course) that will work for you. EM |

That's the type of info I'm looking for. Not a lecture. I'm not 12 - I've been at war with myself over weight since that age. But a bit of support IS helpful. So thank you for an actual answer to the actual question! My sister made an appt for both of us there today. I had never heard of the place before yesterday, that's why I asked about them. She thought it might be helpful to have one-on-one with someone and to be weighed every week with someone else watching over your shoulder. We do already know about nutrition intake (we're professional dieters), but because this offered the personal interest of another individual, we thought it might give us that extra oomph (sp?) needed to stick with it! Ah well. It's good to check into this stuff Mary |

I hope this isn't offensive to the OP, but I had to laugh when I read
this part of your statement. " We do already know about nutrition intake (we're professional dieters)" Something I had to learn the hard way when I first started my new WOE was this a.) wasn't a "diet" and b.) I had to toss out all my old info, preconditioned ideas, opinions on losing weight. Obviously none of them had worked for me anyhow. For me.. and YMMV of course.. I had to start from scratch. Totally relearn things I thought I knew. Toss out all the old wives tales I had heard, all the info I'd been fed over the years or my interpretation of them anyhow. One of the hardest parts of dealing with my weight and subsequent weightloss was learning that for once in my life I didn't know it all. Just a thought. Good Luck with your journey. I used to manage a center for LA Weightloss and can provide you with any
information that you want to know. If you are considering signing up for their program you may want to keep a few things in mind. First there is a very high turnover in the centers so if you become comfortable with your staff at your center, chances are they will not be there long. Second everything is pay up front and it is EXPENSIVE! Your first visit will be sitting with the center manager who will try to use everything she can to get you to sign up on the spot (and her tactics will include using everything youve said to her in your conversation against you). By the time you go to your third visit she will be asking you to 'bulk' you LA Lites (soy protien bars) for your entire program which depending on how much weight you want to lose will run at the minimum of $800. If your goal is to lose weight and your depending on the center staff to help you, you will become frustrated fast. Since the turnover is so high and training so short, you will not get the support you need. The staff dosent know all the answers and it seems that you have to go in circles to find them. They do have dieticians that used to be on call (now they have to send an email and wait for a reply) but their response is usually one that your counselor has already recommended to you. Their main goal is to help you lose weight, but they will try and sell you everything in the store when you are not getting all of your food groups in. The advice that you already recieved about starting an exercise program and just making common sense decisions about what you are eating is probably the best advice that you will get. You can contact me and I can give you more information, even if you just want to know what foods to eat. Good luck in your weight loss efforts |

Of course, one of the big motivators about Weigh****chers, LA Weightloss, or any of those is that you have paid good money to join and follow their programme, which you don't want to waste. Another motivator is that someone is going to stand you on the scales each week and record exactly how much you lost or gained, so someone else is going to see if you've been trying or just pretending. This group can, I'm sure, help with the latter, if you post your weight each week - but you have to be honest! Not because of us, but for your own self-esteem. -- Annabel Smyth http://www.amsmyth.demon.co.uk/index.html Website updated 18 July 2004 |
