Welcome Kathy! You have made a great WOE/WOL choice (if you don't have a
pre-existing kidney condition, of course). You will get lots of support here, but you may also get flamed silly. Ignore the flamers, ignore the trolls. Many of us here appreciate your support and will return it wholeheartedly. If you haven't already done so, it is a good idea to read the FAQ before asking questions - it can help reduce the amount of flaming that could happen. Here is the link: http://www.grossweb.com/asdlc/faq.htm Looking forward to completing my journey in your company Deb 230/207/135 June 2002 - 260; Dec 2002 - 210; March 2004 - 230 Goal for May 31 - 209, reached on May 30 Goal for June 30 - 199 John and Kathy wrote: Hi, My name is Kathy and I have been on a low carb diet for a little over a month now. Hi, My name is Diane. I started a low carb diet (kind of Dr's orders)
around end of January. I did not do the induction phase of Atkins. I started by going from regular soda to diet soda (don't drink coffee and like caffeine in the morning). When I started I had high blood pressure and low blood sugar. I don't see the big drops in my blood sugar (unless I eat too many carbs). My blood pressure was around 140/100 when I started. Around end of March - had my OB/GYN yearly check. I had forgotten to take my bp meds for a couple days and - wow - bp was 119/76. Been checking bp since then - have a bp monitor at home - been staying around the 120/80 mark. Not taking my bp meds (my doc doesn't know yet). I feel so much better. Looking through the group has given me another push to be a little more strict on myself - need to cut more carbs out - drink more water - and yuckkk - even start exercising (had 6 surgeries between Sep 97 and Mar 04 including 3 hip surgeries - one a replacement - and I am 43). Only thing I refuse to quit eating is my chocolate - I won't give that up - sorry - so don't even try to make me Diane 225/206/150 |

You should do the induction as it transforms your body to burn protein and
fat first. As far as the chocolate, buy the absolute best organic chocolate if you must eat it. It has the lowest carb count, that is if you can't stomach the low carb chocolates. Some are very good--Asher's brand, Pure Delight, to name a few. Nat The Green Market "Diane Ball" wrote in message ... Hi, My name is Diane. We mostly have fun and information here. Don't worry about anyone here trying to make you give up your chocolate. You can eat all you want and it won't affect the weight or blood sugar of a single person here (other than you). |

Thanks - I kind of hit a plateau. I know why. I added in a few carbs and quit drinking the water I need to. I realize I need to do it to keep myself healthy and get even healthier. My new incentive is the fact that two good friends of mine are both going through chemo for cancer at this time and in the Atkins book - losing weight and staying healthy could be a preventer of some cancers. Glad I found this group. Diane |

Pure Delight spiked my blood pressure pretty bad. I don't recall how much, but it was definitely too much. You're better off getting real chocolate with the highest percentage of cocoa you can find.
