Default Atkins and Surgery

I might be having to out outpatient surgery shortly for a personal problem
I'm having, I would be awake during the procedure but heavily drugged
obviously. I wanted to know what was in the IV drip that your always hooked
up to during surgery? I know it's fluids going into your body to
'replenish' stuff but is there sugar or something in it? Is there anything
that I need to be concerned about that the hospital could do to me that
would mess up my perfect 7 month period on Atkins?

Thanks.

Normally it's just a saline solution. It's there to replace lost
fluids and to give them a quick way to get drugs into you if needed.

Don't try to second guess surgeons. If they think it's a good idea to
pump something into your body during surgery, let them.

Now, the dietitians during recovery, that's a different story.

A brief outpatient surgery alone won't mess up what you've over a 7-month
period. Don't worry about it....just back on plan asap after you recover.

I would tell your doctor that you have been on a LC WOE
and I also would tell the nurse that you are assigned to
when you are prepped - It usually has no bearing on
anything surgical but its unfair to keep things from them.

Yeah, I had to go back to the ER tonight because the paint was so intence, I
needed to get some pain killers until by appointment with the surgeon
tomorrow. They have me percocet. Anyways the nurse who registered me in
took my blood pressure, after she took it I looked at her and asked if it
was ok? She said it's excellent, I wish I could have readings like that
without taking medication. I then told her why I asked about it and that I
had been doing Atkins since March 1, she gave me the thumbs up and said you
and me both. I was telling her how my family has been on my case 24/7 the
entire time telling me that I filling my arteries and vains with fat and
that i'm going to have a heart attack. She busted out laughing and said,
are they fat? I said some of them are, yes. She said you should know by
now that no matter what diet you do, if you succeed at it, other people who
are fat who are close to you will try to bring you down because they don't
have the will power you have/did to do what you did. She said Atkins was
perfectly safe and she couldn't believe what I looked like when I showed her
my drivers permit, she said you don't even look like the same person. She
told me my vitals were flawless and to keep on doing what I was
doing...after the surgery anyways lol.

But thanks for the input about the IV's, I will be sure to discuss it with
the surgeon tomorrow as well as the nuruse who is going to be assigned to me
just to let them know what I have been doing and I will ask about the IV
thing and whats in it. Surgery might be as early as Friday but I won't know
until tomorrow. Basically what I have is a skin abscess, which is basically
an infection under the skin that is full of puss (like a big pimple) but
it's on my butt and it hurts like hell! I just wanna get this over with so
I can move on, I hate having distractions like this when I have finally had
my life in order now for the past 7 months.

Thanks again!

It's surgery. Do what the docs tell you. Worry about
your diet later.

I sense a pending Darwinization......

Sense whatever you wanna sense, but when you have gone from 302 to 185 your
whole life changes...for the better! The thought of putting one pound back
on me scares me. Don't blame me for thinking like this, blame society for
the way it treats fat people.

Not wanting to re-gain weight *is* an admirable goal.

Putting weight maintenace ahead of "safe surgery and recovery" *is not*.

It's just tardly.

It will be incredibly hard to diet if you're taking a dirt nap.

Recover, then worry about your weight.
