Default Soup anyone???

I'm sure they're available the rest of the year as well, but I usually only
buy them at Christmas time, kind of a silly family tradition thing I
suppose.

The closest Costco here is in Vancouver and because it's a ferry ride away I
don't get there often. DH is going for surgery November 4, so perhaps I can
get by there then and see what interesting stuff they have in their store
here.

Are the hocks limited to this season?

Costco has the herring altho, once again, they have changed brands.
This one has less onion in the mix. But the herring is still good.

I have to agree Fred. I like the herring more as well. Hey! It's

getting
close to that Christmasy season, when I usually buy pickled herring. I
sometimes buy pickled pork hocks/feet too. My dad and I both like them

and
I was just noticing them in the store last week. I'll have to get him a

jar
for Christmas again this year!

I'm thinking of the leathery outer skin. I don't recall seeing any
tastebuddie type bits on it the one time I had any. It was cut very thin
and in some type of Filipino soup. I used to work with a bunch of
Filipinos, interesting diet they have, some of it I could get past my lips,
other stuff, just couldn't do it!

WAIT. There is the leathery skin which looks tastebuddie. That gets
peeled off since it really is not edible. But the inner layer also
has that appearance to some extent but is edible.

Oh gross! They didn't even peel off the outer layer? When I had it,

Best on the DH surgery. Is this a followup to the appendix problems?

Yes it is a followup. When his bowel ruptured after the appendix surgery,
they had to remove 3 feet of it, and because there was so much infection,
they were unable to reattach his bowel at that time, so he's going in to
have the two ends of his bowel reattached now that all sign of infection is
gone. He's not looking forward to another surgery. I'm hoping all goes
well.

Brenda, when I was in hospital a few years ago, next to me was an elderly
lady who had the same thing. She had already spent a few weeks in intensive
care before being transferred to my room. She was so weak... A few months
later I saw her back, after her 2nd surgery where they connected her bowel
again. She was a different person, so healty looking and so happy. She told
me that the 2nd surgery had given back her life.
I wish you and your hubby all the best, keep us posted!

Well, you know what he's been through. Spending that 6 1/2 weeks in
hospital was enough for him, although he didn't remember the first 4 weeks
in ICU. He's very concerned, doesn't like hospitals at all or the thought
of surgery either for that matter. I'm sure everything will be fine.
Thanks for your best wishes.
