I am so pleased you didn't just snottily ignore the unpleasant info because
I found it on a gossip ng. Good for you! I agree with you, btw. I will
never darken Curves's door now.

I found the following on the alt.gossip.celebrities ng:

-- Just so you know: Gary Heavin, the founder of the Waco,

Texas-based
chain of exercise studios called Curves, is a heavy contributor to
several organizations allied with Operation Save America, the

rather
more muscular successor to Operation Rescue, the anti-choice

group.

The organizations he funds are spreading the lie that abortions

lead
to an increased risk of breast cancer. Planned Parenthood says its
operations in Texas are being threatened by Heavin-funded clinics
based on the old therapeutic model "you must carry your child to
term."

In an article in Christianity Today, Heavin expressed pride in his
involvement with anti-choice groups, to which he donates 10

percent of
Curves' profits. You may do with this information what you will.

fine for you. I disagree with you 100%

Actually, I knew some people would not agree with me. I am not stupid -- I
have met anti-choicers before, you know. However, I wanted a snazzy subject
line that people would be likely to read. It DID reflect my opinion, that's
true, but I am not optimistic enough to believe that everyone would share my
support of women's rights.

How kind of you to allow others to make up their own mind! I'm
sure that will be appreciated

It's not junk. It's true. You are very conceited, I must say. Just
because something -- something that applies to the women on this ng, I might
add -- was first posted on a gossip ng doesn't mean it's not true. Indeed,
a citation was included at the bottom of the post! How hard is it to click
on it and see that this article comes from the San Francisco Chronicle?
It's NOT junk -- it is an issue that many of us find very important. I
certainly don't expect others to do research if they don't want to -- I
always want to -- but I do expect them not to pass judgment if they haven't.
I do expect them not to just assume they know something is "junk" without
doing a single thing, including clicking the link on the bottom of the post,
to find out if it is or not. What makes you too good to click a link or
care about an issue?

I have to say again that I am SHOCKED by the response to this post. I mean,
absolutely shocked! I thought people might want to know what kind of an
organization they are supporting. I don't see this as trouble-making -- I
actually thought I was being active and helpful. Don't people want to know
where there hard-earned dollars are going? True, some people might think
this is good news, but whatever type of news it is -- it's news. It's
something we, as possible consumers of Curves, should know. I am AMAZED at
the anger this has generated. I had no idea people would respond by
plonking me or getting angry. I thought people had a right to know -- I
guess some people just don't want to know, and killfile the messenger, so to
speak.
