Default Amazing + ?

Nothing that I ate while 'off' my plan tasted as good as good day
feels! It is nice to be back working towards a healthier lifestyle.
Moving after sitting in theatres for 10 + hours 10 days straight.
Here is a question for everyone- what do you think about eating later
in the evening? I noticed that quite a few people had resolutions of
not eating past 8pm and I have read that in a few books. Thoughts?

I guess it depends on everyone's lifestyle. Personally I go to bed after 1am so it's just not realistic to try not to eat anything after 8pm. So I just have a light dinner at around 10pm and it's working for me.

Hi DD,

It can be a harmful cycle for dieters.

It's also a great way to fatten up livestock and sumo wrestler's,
both. Your body just has no way to use the energy that you've given it
with a late meal, before bedtime.

So to make it work in a structured eating plan, you'd need to then
hold off on having breakfast until several hours later, or eat just a
half of your normal breakfast.

Which isn't that appealing, imo.

A second consideration is that the bulk of the food you eat will still
be in your stomach while you sleep. Inevitably, some gases will form,
and tend to push the stomach contents, in all directions.

Including upward into the esophagus. Now that the food has been mixed
with your stomach's acids, it will chemically burn the unprotected
esophagus, and you don't want that!

Also, it's pretty easy to just "sleep through" a hunger twinge. You
may be like me and dream of a pizza once in a while, but that's just
funny, no worries there. You don't feel "deprived", by going to bed
slightly hungry.

You will feel cooler, though! Grab that extra blanket, for sure.

Our liver's generate a good amount of our body's heat. When we don't
have food for the liver to work on, (indirectly), our body's core temp
will drop a bit, and you can really notice it on a diet.

That's the way, STRING them good days together! (They won't mind a
bit. grin)

You think you're dieting, but you're really just making a pearl string
necklace of good dieting days, one after the other.

I agree with that. I have noticed that I get colder quicker now that I have
lost the weight. I used to be able to walk around the house in shorts and no
shirt during the winter months with the heat turned down, but now I am more
comfortable in sweats and slippers...

I personally try not to eat meals after 8pm because of what David says, the
body doesn't have time to process much of the calories before bedtime
(unless you work 2nd or 3rd shift).

When do muscles recover from exercise? Doesn't it makes sense to give
them a little protein so they can rebuild overnight?

the keys I have found valuable in my weightloss journey...

Wife and I are going out tonight and sharing a meal to
celebrate...(literally ordering one entree and two plates!)

There was an interesting article posted recently on the LC newsgroup.
According to the study, done on monkeys which the study performers
claim to be an accurate model for humans, there was no correlation
found between when the monkeys were fed and their weight gain / loss.

Personally, I find I sleep better if I don't eat too soon before bed.
Not only am I more comfortable, but eating before bed, especially
certain foods, generally causes me to have really wierd dreams.

Default Amazing + ?

Wow! Now that I think about it- I have been a lot colder than normal
especially while sleeping. The house is normally rather cold but last
night I actually got up to put on more clothes.
It does seem sort of good to go to bed a bit hungry but at the same
time I hear 'sent to bed without supper' in my head although I am
fairly certain that couldn't ever had happened to me as a child- maybe
I am channelling Oliver Twist.
It is also interesting that even when I am really hungry when I go to
bed - I wake up in the morning not hungry but I now make myself eat
breakfast.
What about taking vitamins at night?? Is there a optimal time to take
vitamins?

I usually take mine after dinner. No particular reason for it, except
that is usually my main meal of the day and I figure that it will take
longer to digest and that gives the pills more time to dissolve and mix
in.

Sometimes, I vary it up a little bit, trying to get some calcium or
something else in with some breakfast.
