question about the atkins diet
im reading through a bit of the atkins manual and it says 20grams of
carbs per day is the limit. Just after that it says dont cheat with just a little sugar or chocolate or other addicitive foods. OK so what id like to know is can you get away with cheating a little bit by having some chocolate if you still stay under the 20 gram carb limit ? |

Eat only protein and fat, and use your 20 carbs on chocolate and sugar instead of on good veggies and the occassional condiment. That's how to screw up Atkins fast. -georg |

No If you read on you'll see a list of foods allowed on induction. If you read a little farther you'll see these words.....If it's not on the list you are to have NONE of it. Induction is more than just staying under 20g carbs to get you into ketosis. It's also designed to help rid you of your carb addictions. You can't do that if you keep feeding your addiction. -- Jeri 265/189/120 Atkins since 11/5/01 "Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right." |

After induction, you can add carbs accordingly and even enjoy that chocolate treat. Prepared the right way of course. Lots of recipes out there for us chocolate lovers! Sugar is the utmost sin while doing Atkins. Read the book and you will understand it a whole lot more. good luck! Myway |

question about the atkins diet
Eating the sugar-chocolate will keep you feeling hungry and stressed out.
I understand your desire, since I am Queen of Chocolate! But stand firm the 2 weeks of induction, eat only what is on the list, and your desire for sweets and starches will subside, I promise you! I do make my own chocolate candy now, using Lynn's Chocolate recipe, for a dark chocolate lover its excellent! Good luck. Don't forget the water, over and above any other drinks, water is water, clear and simple : ) |

I agree with the other replies: don't eat candy during induction, it will only make things more difficult. After the first two weeks, you can try small amounts of sweet stuff, but it may trigger cravings in you, or, if they have artificial sweeteners, even stall you. You have to decide for yourself, if the risk is worth it. If you find you can eat chocolate after induction, I'd recommend dark chocolate with a lot of cocoa (like, 70 or 80%), because it has only few carbs in it and will satisfy your sweet tooth with one bit. take care, Ina 213/170/154 since 8/15/03, 5'9" www.skreee.de |
