Well, I weighed myself again. To review, I now run 5-6 times per
week, 5-7 milles at 60-90 minutes a pop, and have continued to avoid
flour, sugar, etc. (aside from wheat gluten and a few 'lower-carb'
tortillas), and for the most part, this has worked for me.

However, for the past month I've stuck at 215 pounds. Which is great,
mind you.... I haven't been this weight since college. On the other
hand, for a six-foot-three male, 215 puts me at a BMI of 26.9, mildly
overweight. Even with my large frame, I still have a bit more to go.

So, I just got the results of my TB test back from my doc... routine
visit, but I hit the jackpot and came out positive. Now I have to take
some medication (I forgot what it was called) for nine months, and the
best part is I CAN'T DRINK while I'm taking it! Instant excuse to cut
even more empty calories from my diet (alcohol), even when I thought I
couldn't eliminate any more.

So, I imagine within 2-3 months of starting this medication, if I
continue my lc-compliant lifestyle I should be well under 200.

Anyways, we'll see.

BMI is only a modest improvement over a life
insurance company height/weight chart.
In my opinion, below a BMI of 30 other
measurements--specifically bodyfat percentage,
bodypart measurements, and appearance (how
you look in a mirror) are more appropriate.

To my way of thinking, at six-three and 215
it should be about setting and achieving
suitable bodyfat percentage and appearance
goals through lean (muscle) tissue gains
while maintaining the same bodyweight.
That will equate to a slow decrease in bodyfat
percentage and an improvement in appearace.

I see your stall as a signal that you may have
overdone the aerobic work and maybe even the
dieting with the result being a set point
created by the loss of active (muscle) tissue.

Maybe it's time to ease up on the aerobic work
and build back some of the lost muscle.
Replace some of the runs with weight work and
the alcohol calories with protein calories.

Just a thought.

As another poster said, BMI isn't much different from the old height -
weight charts of insurance comapnies.

After all, both BMI and height-weight tables just keep using the same
tired old data, and you can't expect much improvement. Some of the
older height-weight tables talked about "Frame" .. heavy frame, light
frame.......

These "frames" were to somehow allow for things like muscle mass or
bone mass, but there were never any guidelines for how to do this.

If you take the BMI and modify it with something like "Waist Size", you
might be able to come up with something more useful.

5 foot- 6 inches and 188 Lbs (Waist size 36 inches) gives a BMI of 30,
just into the "OBESE" definition..... I don't have bulging muscles, and
fit into size 40 to 42 suit coats, depending upon the cut of the suit.

For a male at 5' 6" being OBESE at a waist of 36" seems quite absurd.
So, I consider the BMI is NOT a significant improvement in the whole
weight - height issue.

When I was 142 lbs at 5' 6", my waist was 31" and everyone said I was
quite gaunt, almost unhealthily so, and the BMI was 23 - just a little
short of "Overweight".

Congratulations on cutting down on drinking. It will be one of the great
decisions of your life - like quitting smoking.

that sucks about the TB. Hubby turned postive about 10 yrs ago after working
in a hospital setting for 2 yrs. I've been fortunate that I've been in the
field 20 yrs and still remain negative. although the number of positive
children we are seeing is sad and frightening.

I have heard of some not very pleasant side effects from coworkers who have
taken the medication. (I can't remember it off the top of my head either)
but my advice would be to complete it. You don't want to risk having a
depressed immune system and having that TB become active. Best wishes on
that for you and congrats for the amazing WL.
