Well, first off... regardless of your weight, there no doubt is a
young man out there somewhere who'd love you. Finding that young man
may be difficult though.

As for the weight, start working on it!

Simple things you can do that will help:

Drink plenty of water (keeps you well-hydrated and feeling full, does
wonders for skin!)

Get some exercise. Yep, get out there and DO something. Walk, swim,
sit and pump iron, whatever you can do, do it. Start slow, work up to
more difficult things when your body is ready. Getting injured is
counter-productive here.

Cut out highly refined carbohydrates like sugar, white bread, soda and
the like. Eat good quality meats, fish, veggies, fruit and some whole
grains. But don't go overboard on the grains and cereals.

That's a start and should help. It's a long haul. So, stick around,
keep posting and hopefully you can tackle your weight while you are
young and it will be easier for you to lose it.

Well, start reading this list, for one thing :-).

Basically, you need to eat fewer calories and burn more through
exercise. But you probably already know that. What issues are
keeping you from starting such a lifestyle change? Tell us about them
and we can offer suggestions. And you'll get plenty of ideas here
about ways to begin exercising and ways to begin eating a more healthy
diet.

Some questions you might answer to help us get to know you: Have you
always been heavy? Have you attempted to lose weight in the past?
Are you living at home still? Are your family members overweight?
Are they providing large, fattening meals and making it hard for you
to eat more moderately? Or are you eating a lot outside the home, or
bringing your own treats home with you? Are you going out with
friends who eat a lot? Do you drink alcohol? Do you get any exercise
now? If not, are there physical activities that you enjoyed in the
past? Will you be leaving home to go away to college in the next year
or two? Do you have access to a gym? Will your family and friends be
supportive in your efforts at weightloss?

Kudos to you for tackling the weight while you're still young. You
can make a huge difference for the rest of your life by doing
something about it now. It really isn't that hard once you decide to
do it -- just take it a day at a time.

Ouch! That's a lot of weight! Quick advice - work up to at least one
hour of walking a day, replace two of your meals with a diet shake
(Slim Fast, or something similiar. Glucema is healthier but pricier),
and for your third meal eat sensibly. Lose your excess weight before
your joints get ruined. Join a support group, and post here.

Good point - I'd never drink "slimcrap" myself. Some of the other
brands are better nutrition. A study showed that more obese dieters
were successful with meal replacements than with other strategies- but
they had to continue to have at least one replacement a day on a long
term basis.

I Can't believe you just recommended slimcrap. What drugs are you on
Brad? NEVER recommend sugarfilled crap drinks. They guy would be
better off drinking a glass of chocolate milk for christs sake. Not
only that - what you've just said above teaches him Nothing. The OP
needs to learn how to control his eating and recommending meal
replacement without doctor supervision or a closely monitored system.
Otherwise the OP is bound to fail and regain all the weight.

SHe needs to learn how to eat well. She needs to learn how to
control her eating, etc. Now if meail replacement is how she wants
to go, then she really needs to get into a medically supervised
controlled diet, or something that also has support, nutritional
education and teaches the people how to eat .

We've been over this already... Don't you remember? Both jay jay and I
used meal replacements within our woe. They're great for emergencies - I
have them at work, in my car and at home, just in case. And it can also be
a great place for people to start. But while they are replacing meals with
the shakes, they need to get busy learning about eating in the real world.
And exercise...

As someone who just spent the last nine months on all meal replacements I
totally concur with det here. The education is as if not more important
than the type of diet chosen. Meal replacements are a wonderful way to keep
calories down when used properly. One person in my HMR class on the 1200
cal plan (3 shakes, 5 fruits & veggies, with a protien/a dairy/and a fat or
two entrees) was mixing her shakes with whole milk and drinking gallons of
that flavored water with the vitamins (about 80 cal a bottle) and constantly
complained how the diet didn't work. She was a little slow on the uptake in
classes and apparently didn't pay much attention in the ones that focused on
label reading

Oh, yeah, And exercise...

DING, DING, DING, DING, DING......

And these people wonder why they can't lose weight. And they come in
saying they've tried every diet out there.

Truth be told - they're idiots. :-)

And that's been my point all along. HMR or the diet is only the tool, if
you hit the nail with the wrong end of the hammer, don't take it back to the
hardware store complaining that it doesn't work I needed the education
that went with the program and the education I get here. Hence, I feel I
will succeed (and continue to use meal replacements for their purpose - an
option to avoid crap food when the situation arises or as a treat because
they really are very tasty).
