I'm not sure in all my years hanging out at ASD that I've seen the
traffic level this low...

What can we do to liven things up around here?

Have Caleb espouse the wonders of his 100 day diet?

Have Mu give whip us into shape?

Get Chung to give us nutrition and spiritual advice?

Or can we all check in and give an update as to where we are in terms of
our goals--whatever our goals may be?

Restraining myself from murdering my teens (usually they're wonderful,
but I think the PMS fairy is making an extended visit).

Sadly, I think USENET is dying.

Some ISPs no longer provide servers....

That's too bad--I prefer usenet to google or yahoo groups for sorting
and readability. And for lots of other reasons, come to think of it...

I'll be left talking to myself.

I agree -- things are pretty slow. As to where I am: I don't weigh
myself often, but can judge pretty well from the fit of my clothes.
I'm sure I'm at the high end of my goal range after a week of careless
eating around the time of my mom's death, but I can also tell I've
come down some a bit since I've been home. Today was probably my
first really good day -- in terms of general satisfaction with my life
-- since all that happened. I spent about 4 hours doing trail
building work at the conservancy -- pretty heavy exercise involving
hacking up roots and removing stones -- then hung out at the winery
for a while. I'm content with with my weight and my lifestyle at this
point. And assuming I'm not too sore from the work today I'll be at
hip-hop class tomorrow morning.

I admit, I have not seen a ton of traffic here like there used to be.
I'm not sure if Usenet is dying (as mentioned by another poster), or
if it's just that spring has sprung.

Or maybe folks who are dieting are posting to other places now.
Sometimes, when you see all the spam posts, a moderated forum seems
like a nice way to go, LOL!

I actually investigated some of the weight loss groups on yahoogroups
and a lot of those didn't seem to have much traffic either.

Honestly, I don't think Usenet is dead, because some groups have more
traffic than you can believe! Rec.photo.digital comes to mind...

Umm, I think the code for me is: 193/172/140 (weight when I started/
weight I am now/weight I want to be). I'm doing a little bit better
than usual this week. I eat out twice a week, one small meal and one
big one. Yesterday I ate out (target of opportunity - I was at a place
I seldom go that I really like) but then I just ate rice cakes for the
rest of the day, so the net amount of calories was about the same as
they are on a day when I don't eat out. I've been trying to convince
myself that restaurant food isn't as filling as I think it is. If I
can do that, and it's looking good, I will feel less deprived on days
that I don't eat out.

My fancy Homedics scale is acting up. Again. But fortunately there is
a big commercial scale at my bank that seems to be a little bit more
reliable. Not totally reliable, as week before last they both showed
that I gained weight but my waist got smaller by 3/8ths of an inch.

I'm looking forward to an upcomming PBS show called "Fat: What No One
Is Telling You." Suppossed to be an exposé of what goes on in the mind
of those who are labelled obese. I'm getting the impression that I
have what is close to the mind of a thin person, I just ate wrong to
get fat in the first place. There's more on this at MSN.com, in "8
Secrets of the Naturally Slim":

http://health.msn.com/dietfitness/ar...&wa=wsignin1.0

Lastly, I wish there was more discussion on this newsgroup. But you
can't have everything.

I agree with you to a point. The trolls and flakes are certainly annoying
but totally ignorable. I know in my situation, life has just gotten to a
point where I don't have the time to be in front of the computer long enough
to put my thoughts down more than a few times a week.

Since losing weight it's been an effort to maintain the loss, keep up with
other issues that were put aside during the year(s) of weight loss being #1
priority and still find something relaxing and enjoyable (previously
mentioned troll bull**** not being one of those things). I'm not where I
want to be physically, but healthwise I'm there.

Since my recent surgery I've stopped gaining weight - nope it wasn't WLS.
I'm working around the current limitations with regards to activity, but I
expect to have a more active than normal summer. This spring DH and I became
kinship parents to a nearly teenaged girl (2 weeks and counting till the big
1-3) and what time hasn't been eaten up by that...oh wait, that's taken up
every available moment of life and many that weren't available. My kid plays
on a club volleyball team and I travel with them on the weekends.

My goals are to continue rehabbing my dislocated thumb before I have to golf
for real next month, get back to the gym and begin a new lifting program to
put back on some muscle, and run a 5K this fall with my kid. I'd also like
to drop one size by the end of the summer - two by the end of the year.

When I checked this newsgroup a few days ago, I was also a little
surprised by traffic being a little lower than what it used to be a
while ago. I have to disagree with Cubit, USENET is not dying, plenty
of other newsgroups seem to be getting plenty of traffic. I think that
it probably a temporary ebb, perhaps due to diets not being discussed
as much in public media lately.

Well,

I haven't been here and now I am, back sorta. Idling mostly.. I'm
struggling with my weight and waiting for myself to pull myself up by
the bootstraps and get back on track. So.. anything inspiring would be
helpful.
