wrote: Have you tried other hot cereals? Cream of wheat, corn meal, and best of all....Red River cereal...I actually like these three better than oatmeal if I can't load them up with other stuff like fruit. Red River is great on its own. Never heard of putting butter on hot cereal. I just put milk and if I'm spurging, some brown sugar. Okay, so REALLY splurging would be cereal cream instead of milk. the best way to do up cooked oats is with evaporated milk, brown sugar, raisins, and butter. but that's not how i do it (anymore). i just use two splendas and some golden raisins. david |

not the sugar packet junk, the real rolled oats-i still haven't found an appetizing concoction other than butter, sugar and milk. any suggestions? Also try steel cut oats, they have more flavor & when you want something different instead of a bowl of oatmeal, try making a pancake out of it: 3/4 cup Oatmeal(Quick Cooking for thin pancakes, Old Fashioned for thick pancakes) 5 Egg Whites & 1 whole egg 1 cup of Fat Free Cottage Cheese 1 tsp vanilla 1-2 packets of Equal/Splenda sweetner with a sprinkle of cinnimon to taste Mix all ingredients together in a blender until smooth. For fluffier pancakes reduce the amount of oatmeal. Or you can oatmeal to make some bars too: 1/2 cup quick oats 1 1/2 cup chocolate protein powder 1/4 cup natural peanut butter 1 cup skim milk powder 1/2 c. seedless raisins Mix all ingredients together in a bowl & add enough water to make a stiff dough. Use hands to mix well as its quite sticky. Spray an 8x8 inch cake pan with Pam & press dough in evenly. Refrigerate a couple of hours and then cut into 12 bars. Wrap individual bars in cellophane and store in refrigerator. 1 bar is about 16 grams each carbs/protein, 3grams fat, approx 166 calories each. joanne |
