Default Weight loss and pants size for men

I've lost 50 pounds so far (259 to 209), and my pants size has gone from
beyond 42 (though I never bought anything bigger) to a relatively loose 38.
I've been buying 38s, but I want to lose another 40 pounds (approximately)
.. Based on my previous loss, it's about one inch of pants size per 10
pounds of weight loss. At that rate, I'd be about a 34 at my goal weight.
But I don't ever remember wearing size 34 pants. I'm torn between
minimizing my pants buying until I get lower, but at the same time I don't
have any pants. The 42s I have look absolutely terrible, but the 40s are
OK, if big. If I actually get to a size 34, then all of my brand new 38s
will have to be tossed.

Anyone have any rules of thumb for how much weight loss equates with pants
sizes?

Thanks.

1" pant size for 10 lbs pretty much echoes my experience Bob. I was
bursting out of my size 38 jeans when I got totally disgusted with myself
and did something about it. I started at around 200 lbs and have dropped 43
lbs since March. I am very comfortably wearing a size 34 and my size 33 is
a snug fit, but not uncomfortably so.

Do you have a Men's Warehouse near you? They offer free fittings after you pay
for the first fit. It's a little pricey but they can do wonders! And you can
take them in every few months and end up w/ like new pants.
I know they do suits, dress pants and the like, however, I don't think they do
jeans.

It will depend some on your height and how you carry your weight. It sounds
to me like you are a bit shorter than I am at 6'2". I was 42 at 256. Now,
at 224, I'm comfortable in 38s. I will be comfortable in 36s when I get to
about 210, and the last time I wore 34s I was somewhere between 195 and 200.

It looks to me like you are about 10-15 lbs lighter in the same sizes. So
my guess is that you will hit 34s somewhere about 190 or just below. Still
quite a ways off, since it will probably also be very near your goal weight.

The nerd inside says that it's probably not linear. It's probably safe to
say things will slow down as you become more trim.

Ball: V=pi*r^2 (exponential)
Cylinder: V=2*pi*r*height (linear)
Assuming there's a linear relation between volume and weight.

There's always ebay -- for both buying, and selling your oversized pants.
