Sleep Apnea and weight loss
Obesity is commonly thought to aggrevate Sleep Apnea (stopping breathing while
sleeping due to airway obstruction, failure of the brain to signal respiration, or a combination of both). Has anyone here with diagnosed Sleep Apnea found relief when they lost weight? Hen. |

Has anyone here with diagnosed Sleep Apnea found relief when they lost weight? Yes, DH was undergoing tests to determine whether he needed ENT surgery on his palate or possibly CPAP at night while at his highest weight. After a 42 pound weight loss on LC he now sleeps soundly with no episodes of apnea....and so do I ;-)) Sas 157/139/130 John 232/190/180 lc since 9/12/03 --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Sleep Apnea and weight loss
My DH was not diagnosed, but I observed him stop breathing in his sleep
many times when he was really heavy (280lbs)and he snored like a freight train. He is now down to 232 lbs, and I have not observed it happen at all. He also doesn't snore anymore Regards, Deb 260/213/135 HerbalHen wrote: Obesity is commonly thought to aggrevate Sleep Apnea (stopping breathing while sleeping due to airway obstruction, failure of the brain to signal respiration, or a combination of both). DH snored horribly, would wake up several times a night gasping (I'd see this, he never really "woke up") and was tired all the time. 95lbs later and all that is in the past. Has anyone here with diagnosed Sleep Apnea found relief when they lost weight? My wife was diagnosed with sleep apnea and had been on a CPAP for about two years. Ninety pounds after we started Atkins she stopped using the machine. Her snoring is occasional and mild, I've heard no breathing interruptions, and the sleep apnea symptoms (daytime grogginess, frequent nighttime urination) have not returned. Sleep Apnea and weight loss
I had moderate sleep apnea..at 285 ...when I hit 300 I almost couldn't get
to sleep from not being able to breath. Now at 253 my wife actually leans over to see if I'm breathing at night .This has been the one greatest advantage to me from losing weight. Sleep Apnea and weight loss
Yes, I been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea. It actually runs in my family too. Had
a baby sister that died of it.. Back then it was called crib death. Probably was other reasons for crib death too. Since losing weight, I sleep better. I don't wake my ownself up with my own snoring. |

Wow, that's great! Did your weight loss actually *cure* your sleep
apnea? I've heard of several who reduced sleep apnea through weight loss, but very few who eliminated it. If you're one of those people, you're *really* lucky! Excess weight is probably as bad for overall health as not breathing or sleeping at night. My health was going downhill so quickly because of my sleep problems that I believed I would be dead in a couple years. Once my sleep apnea was treated, starting in December, things improved dramatically. I figured I might as well lose some weight, since I was going to be around for a while. Life is good. Sleep Apnea and weight loss
The sleep apnea got so bad for me before low carbing.. I would awake at times
because of catching my breath. Like not getting enough air while sleeping. It scared me. Now, no problems like that at all. |
