... I was driving home from lunch to go have some leftover flank steak
from yesterday, when I passed by the same Taco Bell I pass every day.
It crossed my mind that some days before I started low carbing, I used
to pull in there and order 5 or 6 items for lunch, eat till I was
totally stuffed, go back to work, want to take a nap, and be hungry
again well before dinner time.

That got me thinking about all my former eating habits. I would skip
breakfast only to wind up at 7-11 where I would get a coffee and a
couple chocolate donuts, eat those and be hungry again and go get a
burger for a midmorning snack before lunch. I am totally amazed,
looking back, at the sheer volume of food I used to eat, and my
ability to put all that food away. I didn't think so at the time, but
know I can see what an obsession food was to me. Half of my thoughts
were devoted to what I was going to eat next.

I never realized until today HOW obsessed I was and how easily I was
able to beat that obsession just by cutting out carbs. Seems like
such a little thing, but to me it made ALL the difference.

I know exactly how you feel. People who say they can't "do" Atkins or LC
because blah blah blah, don't realize the freedom from food obsession that
is one of the biggest pluses from this WOL

Nice going on the weight loss. Yeah, I was a taco bell fan myself. Just too
easy and tastes pretty good. Have found some subsitutes to get me past taco
bell. And yeah, the nap thing, same here.

I still occasionally go to Taco Bell. Get the burritos or whatever, but
also get a fork. The filling is the best part! Then throw the shell away,
just like a bun at BK or McD.

I'll add a big "ME TOO" to this one. This is the first time in my
life that I feel absolutely free of cravings for food and the
obsessive need to eat and think about eating.

Exactly! I can see foods that formerly beckoned, and I really
don't want them. My daughter seemed to think I wouldn't be able
to resist her delicious cake this weekend, and I tried to explain
this. I really don't desire cake. I may eat a bite or two or
even a tiny slice, but if I do so, it would be so she would not
feel slighted--and also as a little test to see if that unleashes
all sorts of desires again.

My 6 year old said to me "daddy has ice cream", and I said "Yeah so?".
I couldn't believe it. The times when I want something it's in my
head, rather than the irresistable force that I used to get.

I share your experience. For years I was convinced that my overeating
was linked to some childhood experience that somehow kept me obsessing
over food. It is so liberating to be able to eat so well and then,
actually have a clear mind to focus on the rest of life rather than
"what can I eat next". The mental freedom is something that is not
often discussed but is truly as much a benefit as the weight loss itself.

I've found the opposite, I'm one of the school of thought about food who
went into the supermarket, bought what looked good, took it home, cooked
it and ate it. Which is why I was fat. I now have to spend a lot more
time and consideration on planning what I'm going to eat to make sure it
comes within my carb (and calorie) limits, and I have to spend time
actually preparing real food as opposed to eating rubbish. I also find
that I have to food shop rather more than I did, because salad doesn't
keep nearly as well as the carby things I tended to keep in and have
when I'd forgotten to shop. In fact, forgetting to shop is now a
somewhat less minor disaster than it was - thank goodness for 24-hour
supermarkets.
