Default Christie Crunchers

Sorry, only for folks in Canada!

I found these at the grocery store this evening. Decided to
pick up a bag of the Cheddar flavor.

cmd=ARTICLE_VIEW&lang=EN&aid=68254&sid=41014&ctx=5 000&sib=1

Not bad. Very cheesy taste to them. Only 450 calories for the
100g bag and 10g of fat.

Give them a shot if you can find them.

Cheers!

Alex

459 calories, that's more than 1/3 my daily intake...

True, but it's usually not one's intent to intake the whole thing in one
sitting. I'm sure Christie's would like that though.

Crunchers might be something good to divide up into little plastic bags and
take for an afternoon snack or lunch supplement.

Yesterday was a long day where I didn't eat a whole heck of a lot. Skipped
breakfast, ate lunch (sandwhich and preztels), and didn't get home until
9pm to contemplate dinner. Since I was too lazy to cook and it was really
too late to consume vast amounts of calories, I opted for the Crunchers.
It held me over until this morning.

Now, I'm only 30 mins away from Banana and Stawberry Cheerios! A new
personal favorite.

Yeah, yeah - I know...Carb filled, but oh so yummy!

Cheers!

Alex

Yes, but it depends on what these things are like, they're probably like
those very light, puffy rice or corncakes that weigh less than 10g each. I
have a 135g pack of corncakes, there's 20 of them & you'd only eat 2 or 3 at
a time, you can have them with dips or spread stuff on top.

i notice that people get apologetic about 'carbs' now, after all this
low-carb craze. like, 'i know they're bad, but i like them.'
carbohydrates are not bad for you, nor is eating them by themselves
(i.e. without grilled chicken or protein powder on top) as long as you
don't feel sensitivity to them, and as long as you're getting your
protein and fat elsewhere during the day. your cheerios, though, have
10g sugar per cup, which isn't too good; it would be healthier (and
probably tastier!) to cut up some banana and strawberries atop a bowl
of plain cheerios. but even so--if you don't eat many other foods with
sugar added, don't worry about it, since you like them. it's much
better for you than a denny's grand slam breakfest everyday. a couple
teaspoons of sugar shouldn't kill you.

i saw a shirt at a store recently that said 'i love carbs' and had a
picture of the food pyramid with all different 'groups' of carbs on it.
i totally would have bought it if they had a small, but they only had
extra larges.

So many people claim to feel so much better on low-carb, I tried it a few
times and always felt rotten. Never mind losing weight, having enough energy
to get up and go to the kitchen was difficult enough! Some people are
obviously more successful at getting energy from fat than others.

Adding protein has the effect to satisfy your hunger for longer than carbs
alone, as protein is more complex and takes longer to break down. I find the
protein powder on oatmeal, yogurt with fruit or cereal makes the whole thing
feel 'heavier'. Same thing with the grilled chicken, boiled egg, etc.

You're right. The problem with sugar is that it sneaks a lot of calories
into your diet whilst giving you very little in return, both in terms of
nutrition and satiety, since sugar is processed quickly & doesn't really
fill you up for any length of time. It's possible to take in huge amounts of
calories without noticing them, in fact you can eat no solids & still 'eat'
well above maintenance just with soft drinks (soda, juices, milkshakes,
sports drinks, etc.) This is probably why people are always warned against
sugar even though fat has a lot more calories, fat is very noticeable and a
lot more filling than sugar.

Carbs as such are no worse for you than fat or protein, it's the excessive
consumption of them (or anything else for that matter) that's bad for you.
People have died from drinking too much water, it's not a common occurrence
but the fact that it's possible shows how anything can be bad in excess
although this doesn't mean it should be avoided (imagine avoiding water!).

I know they've been selling 'carbs-r-evil' t-shirts for a while, that's
probably why they have the opposite message now, although it doesn't really
help that they were all XL, it's like saying if you love carbs you must be
obese ;-)

Or else the sizes S and M were all sold out...

Or maybe all the smaller ones had sold out already.

Just to chime in the "carbs aren't evil" camp. I've lost 23 pounds
in last 3 months, eating more carbs than I had before. Less french
fries, more whole grains. Some carbs are better than others, obviously.

I've also lost 23 lbs since mid-Jan on average 180g carbs/day amounting to
only 720 cals. If this was fat it would add up to 1620, you can gain weight
on low-carb if you eat a lot of fat. The problem with French fries is not
the quality of the carbs but the fat they absorb, whole grains have the
added benefit of fiber. In the end, it's all down to calories in vs
calories out, maybe a case for a 'Calories'R'Evil' t-shirt ;-)

Whole grains are awesome food! It's important not to cut out the
healthy things. There's nothing wrong with good carbs.
