Default Trying to start again

Hi everyone,

I am now officially delurking as I just need your help and advice too much
to not talk anymore LOL ........ I used to post regularly here a few years
ago when I lost nearly 60+ lbs - and guess what - it all came back + more.

I just cant stay on plan. I now am so big at 220lbs ish that I dont have the
energy to start again and exercise. I am also struggling with horrendous TOM
problems with varying perimenopause symptoms, depression and stress !!!
Recently had a death in the family and other family problems - all I did was
eat more. Nothing made me lose weight.

This group was a terrific support to me years ago and I hope that you can do
the same for me now. I have been reading for months on and off and think you
are all so friendly and supportive to each other.

There are no clubs I can get to now. I did go to one when I lost the weight
but am not able to get to any close by any more so if I am to do this I have
to do it by myself. This is what I am finding impossible. I cant keep enough
enthusiasm for one day - let alone a week, a month, a year !!

So - that is a brief introduction to me - my name is Libby and I come from
the UK.

Can I join your group ??

You already did! Be very welcome.

If you can't get to a meeting, think about the WW At home plan or the on
Line version. Those who have done it say it's very good. We here can
supply the meeting side of things... And you get a daily fix rather
than just once a week!

Were you on Pure Points when you did WW last time, or a previous
version? Lots of people are saying that the Pure Points/Time to Eat
program is easier to follow than anything that went before (there are
quite a few returnees in my meeting).

You have made those first and most difficult steps - recognized the
problem and asked for help. We'll give all the help we can.

I had 5 stone/70 lbs to lose when I started, and I'm over half way
there. I started with no faith and no motivation. If I can do it, so
can you!

BTW, where in the UK are you? I'm falling off the bottom of England,
here in Kent!

Hi Libby! Of course you can join our group - the more the merrier. This is
my third (and last) time on WW. The first time I got to within 3kg of goal.
The second I lost only 2kg. This time I've lost just over 20kg, and have
kept it off for almost 6 months. I think the secret was the support of this
group amongst other things. Anyway, here's the welcome notice. I', sure
you've seen at least some of it before, but this time it's all for you

Welcome to this great newsgroup where you'll receive lots of support,
advice, and encouragement. Once a week on Sundays, I post a list of links
that newcomers to asdww might find useful. You may want to look for that
later in the week, or do a backwards search for last Sunday's post.

In the meantime, here's our FAQ:
http://www.didian.com/asdww/
our welcome notice:
http://www.geocities.com/welcomenotice/index.html

Frequently seen acronyms on this NG:
NSV = Non-Scale Victory
WOE = Way of Eating
WOL = Way of Life (Living)
OP = on Points or On Program
DH = Dear or Darling Husband
DS/DD/DGD/etc = Dear or Darling Son, Daughter, Granddaughter, etc
WI = Weigh-in

WNM - Weight No More Weight Loss Challenge:

Here's a short synopsis of the USA program by Joyce -

How many points you can eat is only based on your current weight, as you
lose
weight those points allowed will decrease (logic is that your body will need
less
to operate). At 183 pounds and based on the new US flexpoints system, you
will
have a set point target of 24. In addition to this you are allowed 35
flexpoints
to be used throughout the week ... as well as any activity points you earn
on a
particular day. When your weight drops to 175, your target drops to 22
points ...
weight reaches 150, target once again drop to 20 points. 3 servings of
dairy of
recommended per day, 5 servings of fruit and veggies, minimum of 6 glasses
of
water.

To calculate food and activity points, I love this computer desktop
calculator ...
http://www.zythra.com/downloads/points.exe

The basic plan is easy. Eat at least your minimum daily number of points.
Points
do not carry over from day to day. You are allotted 35 weekly flexpoints to
be
used at your discretion ... can divide them up and use daily (would be an
additional 5 points per day) or save them and use them for a special
occassion
during the week. Activity points are earned based when exercising, but can
ONLY
be used on the day they are earned.

If you can afford $15/month, the online ww program might be a great thing
for you
to look into. There is lots of information available, as well as the food
point
database and journaling system.

Joyce
WW starting weight: 228.8 - 2/5/02
current weight: 133.3
Lifetime: 4/4/03

Please note that if you live in onther countries (UK, Australia, NZ,
Europe), the Points plans are different. The UK and Australia/NZ calculate
points based on saturated fat and total kilojoules. Most of Europe
calculates based on total fat and total kilojoules. The desktop calculator
above can handle all of these programs.

Disclaimer: As an unmoderated Usenet newsgroup, asdww is unusual in that
most of the people who participate are respectful, considerate folks who
freely share their experience with and knowledge of WW, weight loss, and
maintenance. Yet occasionally, spammers, trolls, and flamers show up to post
advertising, false information, insults, and the like. Nearly all of the
time, people like this are just trying to yank someone's chain. Most of the
regulars on this newsgroup offer their experience as a suggestion to try if
you're stuck, but are quick to advise that each person has to find what
works for him/herself. If someone posts something that doesn't sound right
to you, ask the newsgroup, ask your WW leader, or ask your health
professional.

Much success on your weight loss journey! WW works!

Welcome Libby to our little corner of Usenet. If you've been lurking
for any length of time, you already know what a wonderfully supportive
group this is. Our collective sense of humor is just a bonus!

Getting the mind and heart and body ready and willing to cooperate
with a weight loss program is tough business. Especially when you've
lost before, having to do it again can feel like such an uphill
battle. I think it took me two full years from the time when I first
got the notion that I had to do something about my weight once and for
all to finally being able to commit to and stick with this new way of
eating. That came after menopause and depression and stress. I can't
imagine taking on weight loss in addition to those major hormonal
changes. Brava to you for even considering it. Please don't be so
tough on yourself if getting started is hard. You've got a virtual
tsunami going on in your body with all the age-related changes
occurring. Do what you can as you're able and love yourself for making
that much effort.

I don't go to storefront meetings. WW Online and this newsgroup are my
tools for support and accountability. So far, I've been at this for 14
months, and now have somewhere between 2 and 23 lbs to go. Early on, I
discovered the value of mini-goals because looking ahead to the total
amount I needed to lose was too intimidating and overwhelming. I'm not
one who could climb Mt. Everest by looking at the top of the mountain.
Nope, I need to concentrate on getting from one base camp to the next.
And not in any specified time frame, either. I set mini-goals in 2-3
lb increments, which were usually attainable in 2-5 weeks. If I ever
thought about quitting, I'd give myself permission to do so when I
reached my next mini-goal. Since they were never far off, I've always
been able to convince myself to stick with it that long. And then by
the time I've reached that mini-goal, I'm so pleased with myself that
it overpowers the internal voices of discouragement.

You might start by doing just one thing. Maybe make it your goal to
drink 8, 8-oz glasses of water every day. Make that into a habit and
declare a non-scale victory (NSV). Take your measurements, record them
someplace for easy reference later, and declare an NSV for facing the
hard facts. Change your breakfast only, or your lunch, or another easy
meal in the day. Think about your real motivation for wanting to lose
weight and what might be getting in your way. For me, I've known that
discomfort with my sexuality and the shame and self-blame of childhood
sexual abuse were significant contributors to my need for a large
body. No matter that I wanted to be slim. Being able to hide behind my
girth was the more powerful motivator.

Keep reading and posting, asking for and offering support. One of
these days, all the stars will be in alignment for you, and you'll be
ready. Welcome aboard.

I MUST have the meetings, I am not sure why because I am not generally a
"joiner" type person. Besides the meetings, and this group I think there
are a couple of things that have really helped me. I never do anything I am
not ready to commit to for life, for example exercise, I am sure I would
already be at goal if I had been exercising. I couldn't get motivated until
recently so I didn't even pretend to do it. Now I have found something that
while I do not like it, I will be able to live with it. Food is the same
way, I love grilled cheese, I have tried every way to eat one while staying
on program that anyone has ever suggested... I have been able to switch to
lower point bread, lower point cheese, leer point miracle whip, but no
matter what I tried it needs real butter, rather than giving them up, which
ain't gonna happen for life I accepted that I must budget for them and do
without other things that day, and bear in mind this had taken me a long
time to get where I am. the first month I counted calories and lost 14.5
then as you see from my WI post this has just been the WI for week 80. and
as to the girl issues... I have actually had a few more toms than had been
habitual and the stuff that goes with tom are less, particularly in the area
of water retention and headaches. Best of luck, Lee

welcome to one of the best places on the net. Now here is

someinspiration
for you, a whole lot of my tom issues have gotten better since losing
weight, 88.5 pounds, and I am 44 so I relate completely, again welcome

and
best of luck, Lee

Really ?? Thanks for that Lee - I have been very inspired by your loss. I

am
42. How did you lose all that ?? Do you go to a club ?

Hi everyone,

I am now officially delurking as I just need your help and advice too

much
to not talk anymore LOL ........ I used to post regularly here a few

years
ago when I lost nearly 60+ lbs - and guess what - it all came back +

more.

I just cant stay on plan. I now am so big at 220lbs ish that I dont

have
the
energy to start again and exercise. I am also struggling with

horrendous
TOM
problems with varying perimenopause symptoms, depression and stress

!!!
Recently had a death in the family and other family problems - all I

did
was
eat more. Nothing made me lose weight.

This group was a terrific support to me years ago and I hope that you

can
do
the same for me now. I have been reading for months on and off and

think
you
are all so friendly and supportive to each other.

There are no clubs I can get to now. I did go to one when I lost the

weight
but am not able to get to any close by any more so if I am to do this

I
have
to do it by myself. This is what I am finding impossible. I cant keep

enough
enthusiasm for one day - let alone a week, a month, a year !!

So - that is a brief introduction to me - my name is Libby and I come

from
the UK.

Can I join your group ??
