Default Gaining weight on induction

Hi all,

I was on the Atkins diet some 9-12mths ago and lost 15 or so KG
(about33lbs)..... I went back to carbs and gained about 10KG (22lbs)

I am now in my second week of induction and still gaining.

I eat:-
B/fast 2 eggs (fried) two sausages (pure minced meat) and two rashers of
bacon.

Evening: Meat/fish/egg and salad greens.... (Moderate portions - standard
dinner plate about 1" deep)

I drink lots of water

1 cup of coffee am/pm..... I use cream, instant coffee and stevia to
sweeten.

I walk 1hr per day (gentle-moderate) and do forty "squats" per day (without
weights).
I am almost 55yrs old and my starting weight was 100kg at the start - it is
now 102.2kg (about 220 now 225lbs)

My calorie count has decreased markedly....

Something is amiss? Maybe the coffee but it is a very low carb count (say 2
per cup)... The "greens" - cabbage is my absolute favourite - may include a
portion of cauliflower some days and small quantities of herbs (fresh)
chilli white raddish etc...

Any help appreciated

Noticing some salty foods there, in the bacon and sausage. May be helping
you to retain water.

I'd skip the processed pork (perhaps replace with hamburger or chicken
breast), double my water intake, and see what happens.

Good luck.

Jake.

Thanks Jake,

I do salt EVERYTHING... this may be the problem... Talking with my wife
(she is 45kg Duh!!) perhaps I am using too much oil on the salads... Hard to
know. The portions are very light and I do not eat between meals. According
to the "strips" I am not in keytosis, unless the faintest hint of purple is
keytosis???
It is weird - last time I lost so fast and so easily I just thought it would
happen the same way.... "Our" bodies sure are complex...

Hoedy;

Something to think about is a salt substitute (like "No Salt"). It has no
sodium, is high in Potassium and really has a decent "salt" flavor. I use
it for the Potassium.

Regards

Dan

The question is what are you gaining. If you are in ketosis it is NOT
fat. Atkins is a fat loss process not a water loss process.

I am almost 55yrs old and my starting weight was 100kg at the start - it is
now 102.2kg (about 220 now 225lbs)

Ah, 5 pounds. My water retention swing is 5-6 pounds, too. The
difference is I eventually learned what my water swing is.

Water, water, everywhere, and all of it on the fricken scale.
But at least not a speck of it is actually fat.

You are doing fine.

Something is amiss in your method of counting calories.

Hmm. Can't say for sure without exact portions, but it doesn't look like
the OP is overdoing the food. People do gain weight for other reasons than
excess calories, sometimes. Water weight gain, for example. Or, in my case,
a really crappy cheap scale where the reading fluctuates relative to the
humidity in the air. It usually says I'm lighter than the scale at the
gym, though, not heavier.

For the original poster, I would suggest using fitday.com and accurately
measuring your portions, to see what your exact calorie count is. I
remember reading something here that if you've done low-carb before, gone
off it, then go back on, it's harder to lose the second time, so calories
are even more important.

If you are eating less than maintenance calories, you will not gain weight.
Which part of this do you not understand?

Oh, I understand that. But I also understand that very occasionally people
gain weight even when their calories are less than what their body needs.
In very rare circumstances, to be sure, like extra water retention from
certain medications, stuff like that.
