I brought a water bottle on our canoe trip but since it started pouring
rain about 1/4 into it, I lost my desire to drink any :P. OTOH, I was so
dehydrated when I got home that I slugged down 2 liters in just over an
hour.

The challenge is over for now. Please keep up the sipping - it's good
for you!

Jenn

I enjoyed this challenge and ended up doing on avg better than 4 liters a
day. Thanks Jenn for suggesting it.

No problem Susan! I think we (as a group) should suggest more of these
kinds of challenges to keep us thinking about our overall habits and not
solely focus on what/how much we're eating all of the time since a healthy
overall WOL is probably going to lead to more success than just simply your
WOE. Plus it gets people involved and the ones who don't want to be or
think it's an "insane" idea can just not participate

A question on water. I had always understood that you shouldn't count soda
or coffee and tea when calculating water intake because they are diuretics.
Is that not right?
Thanks

It was long believed that caffeine was a strong diuretic. Sometime in
the last several years, research showed that it mainly stimulates the
bladder so one has the urge to urinate, but is only slightly diuretic.

I don't count any pop or coffee/tea. When I read Body For Life, Bill
Phillips says to compensate for caffeinated beverages with an equal amount
of water in addition to your 8-10 glasses a day. When I was on my diet plan
we weren't allowed to count caffeinated beverages as water intake.

I drink only herbal tea (leaves, not bags). Can I count that in as an
"allowed fluid intake" or not?

I don't drink much tea but when I do it's decaffeinated green tea. I always
count it toward my water intake as it's decaffeinated. Is the herbal tea
decaffeinated?

Yes, it is, and it's also part of my WOE since my GP/nutritionist suggested
it for its calming effects. It's a mint and chamomile blend (and other herbs
too, I'd have to look it up, though), and I should drink it when I'm on the
verge of wanting to eat but not being really hungry.
