From what I can tell from the book, this plan doesn't specifically count carbs...you just eat from specific food lists, and by doing that, your carb intake gets controlled. AS you progress through the phases, you get to eat carbier stuff, and hence your carb levels tend to increase. From my understanding, SBD doesn't have to be low-carb and certainly doesn't have to be high-sat-fat. Of course, Atkins doesn't have to be high-sat-fat either. |

From reading the menu- I just don't get it. How can all that low-fat fake food
possibly be anything but packed with carbs? How is SB even considered LC? |

I have been on the South Beach diet for a couple of months. From reading the book, I can not figure out how many carbs I am allowed in a day. does anyone know the amounts of carbs that are allowed per day during each phase?. The South Beach Diet is not quantitative about carb counts the way, say, Atkins is. There is no target number of carbs per day. The point of South Beach is just to eliminate high glycemic index foods and break the craving cycle. South Beach (once you pass through the initial two weeks) allows a variety of very "carby" foods that an Atkins follower might shun - such as whole grain breads or whole wheat pasta or sweet potatoes - but suggests that you limit your use of them to one or two servings a day. Following South Beach-ish principles I have been averaging about 40-50 g net carbs a day for the month I have been eating low-carb. But I have been reluctant to add the relatively carby yet South Beach permitted items back into my diet, because I am afraid of binging. So I think that one could follow the principles of South Beach and yet still stay below 100 g net carbs a day, a very low-carb diet by most standards. One more thing you might have noticed about the South Beach book is that the lists of "Foods to Enjoy" is very rudimentary and incomplete. If you peruse the recipes and meal plans for a particular phase you will notice many foods that are permitted but not listed on the "Foods to Enjoy" list. This will give you additional ideas for things to enjoy. carla 237/221/165? |

Amount of carbs per day for south beach diet
Started SBD mid November. I lost 9 lbs in the first two weeks, they suggest
you will lose 8-13lbs. I was very strict and other then an accidental carb or 2 in a recipe I didn't know about, I did very well. I also added exercise into my life. Deep water aerobics 2x a week and a walk or visits with my bowflex. The sweet cravings did not disappear in 2-3 days as suggested, however at the end of the induction I did suddenly notice they were gone. I just kind of forgot about them. My loss since Nov. 12 has been 17lbs in 7.5 weeks. (I had lost some weight previously and maintained all summer/fall). I am pleased with my progress so far. In Phase 2 I am adding back one fruit, milk/yogurt and allowable carb a day. If I eat 2 carbs or don't continue exercising...I gain back .5 or 1lb. So it is real clear to me that I have to very careful to continue exercising, drinking my water and watching carefully how much I am eating - even if it is an allowable carb. What I like best about SBD - what is working for me - is that besides counting my servings of allowable carbs in a day, I don't have to find, calculate, and count grams of carbs. I am not a counter - calories, fat, carbs, I just don't like to write stuff down. So there you have it - how I am doing on SB and why it is working for me. -- Melisa 203/177/140 "Jack" wrote in message news:rM0Kb.59470$xX.360641@attbi_s02...
