New Girl
Hello Everyone,
Just joined groups. I was wondering if anyone has tried the South Beach Diet? I've only lost 3 pounds and all the readings say in phase 1 8-13 pounds should be off. Getting a little discouraged . So, if any one has any advice please let me know. Hope everyone has a good weekend! Me |

Honestly I didn't cheat for three weeks. Just this past weekend I did.
But for the first three weeks, didn't cheat at all. Thats why I don't understand it. About 2 years ago I did low fat (under 25 grams) a day; and lost abut 30 pounds. But my body stopped responding to it. I also did some reading & the way I was eating could lead me to diabetes. So, I heard such good things about south beach, decided to try. I would like to loose about 30pounds. I do know I have to start going to the gym. This week I finally went. How about you, whats your story? |

Congrats! You did a lot of work, you must be so proud of yourself. I
agree that one day can do a lot of damage, but I weighed myself before and after that day, and ther was no difference in my weight. I think the big thing is smaller portions (have not been very good with that.), and going to the gym. I realize that its not a diet, just a new way of eating. Can you tell that I've done my homework. Thank you for the advice and about fitday, going to check it right know. Again, Congrats on all your hard work |

It is a hard thing! And your right, it could be a lot worse than not
losing 1lb per week. I need to keep that in mind! I'm on a start, going to the gym in a few minutes. Me |

Hope everyone has a good weekend! Me Well I'd think that just means you didn't drop as much water as some do...no big deal. Our household (me, the wife and son) started South Beach nearly a month ago (we're doing the induction stage for 4 weeks).....My son and I both dropped around 14lbs where the Mrs. dropped 6. Since we have more to lose than the Mrs. with different body types/health situations the differences are not that surprising. Longer term we're hoping for 1-2lbs a week and seem very comfortable hunger/ appetite wise with the food choices(average day is 1500 calories with some days less)......Mentally to avoid impatience I'm trying to stay off the scale (maybe once a week) and approach it less like a diet but rather a different way of eating....I'd never would have thought that a eggplant pizza would have been fun. Good luck Soggy |

Good luck Soggy I am curious, what is that eggplant pizza. Do you use eggplant as crust, or as topping? -- 223/173.0/180 Crust......peeled then sliced crosswise the eggplant approx. 1/4 inch thick....soaked an hour or two in salt water, drained/dried eggplant on a rack (lightly coated the slices with lemon juice and olive oil to keep it from browning)......and sprinkled with more salt to dry further. Lightly broiled the slices then topped each with my pizza sauce, low fat Moz, low fat pepperoni with mushrooms and olives......readily passed the family approval testG..... Did the eggplant thing again for a lasagna, which turned out well, I didn't presoak (just oiled.lemon juice, salted, drained on a rack and broiled lightly) it worked but pre sal****er soaking worked better I think. I am jealous of males in that aspect, that they could loose weight
faster than females. 1-2 lbs a week is a good goal. I think that its great that you guys are making it a family thing, more support! Do you feel that the calories intake is lower, but the fat intake is higher? The scale is the devil... I've been trying to only weigh myself 1 a month. I don't care really how much the scale weights though, but I still weigh myself. I care more about how the clothes fit. I read some where the best thing to do is, get a pair of pants that you have that you can't fit into, and measure the distance that doesn't fit, then X amount of time, try them on again and see the distance. We can do this.. Good Luck |

Golly now now I feel special....I'm sure most of any difference is water related and will balance out as the body adapts but until I'll feel blessedG. 1-2 lbs a week is a good goal. I think that its great that you guys are making it a family thing, more support! Do you feel that the calories intake is lower, but the fat intake is higher? We were a pretty carb heavy family (bread, rice, pasta and potatoes)....one of my hobbies is/was artisan bread baking (sourdough)...since we've replaced those carbs with green stuff I'm sure the calorie count fell...my rough calorie counts put most days below 1500 per. I'd trust the fat intake has dropped as well since I tended to batter and fry anything that would hold still and now I'm baking, broiling and boiling as well as eating much more fresh.....our appetites have shrunk a bit that now I've been able to cut meat portions without feeling deprived...cut thin, pounded out and in soup etc so the eye still feels the portion is ample. The Mrs. has a sweet tooth but sugar free Jell-O and dabs of other sugar free items keep her happy...her and my son dabble with my ice-cream maker and low cal pudding.conglomerations for frozen nighttime snacks...Once I get past the learning/ practice stage I hope it becomes less a "diet" and more simply the way I cook...it has been surprisingly fun and your right the family thing has made it more so.. The scale is the devil... I've been trying to only weigh myself 1 a month. I don't care really how much the scale weights though, but I still weigh myself. I care more about how the clothes fit. We can do this.. Good Luck I think you are right...the scale is only fun when the lbs. specifically drop and more than depressing when that needle refuses to budge.....Even worse with a rare medical condition and medications I'm prone to edema so a 5lb swing means little....Clothes are already more comfortable and I greatly look forward to fitting into those items long since packed away.....kind of a adventure isn't it....Good Luck Soggy |

"Ignoramus11962" wrote in message ... That's great that you are baking SD bread. We also bake it. What kind of starter do you have? i I have a home brewed (used for most of my baking) and a Sourdough Jack (from the 1950-1960's book)......My homebrewed is just over 5 years old, it would be over 10 but 5 years ago I was quite ill and the poor thing sat neglected in the fridge for almost 6 months, I mostly recovered but it didn't so once I was back on my feet I started another (its actually better than its predecessor at flavor and rise)....Oddly baking bread is how I reaffirmed life after mightily trying to check outG. Do you have a preferred bread that you bake? Soggy |
