row from exercise. It's like forgetting to brush your teeth!

I'm trying to figure out if I should just take today off too, or if I should
go to the gym and get some cardio in. But at any rate, it feels good to
know that exercise has become part of me!

I usually end up performing above my expectations on days when I'm sick.
Not to my full potential, but better than I walk in the gym thinking
I'll do. I'm speaking of free weight workouts though and not cardio.
I'm thinking cardio with a head cold would be a disaster, but I don't
ever do formal cardio exercise so I'm basically just guessing.

My experience has been the same, and in fact both trainers I've had
have told me that it's fine to do strength training with a cold, but
to avoid cardio. And I've found that strength training has made me
feel better, at least temporarily. (Afterward, the steam room at the
gym feels really good too :-).) Both trainers also advised me to
avoid lifting or cardio if I have a fever, though.

Yes, I know how you feel....GUILTY. Since you know exercise is good for
you, not exercising becomes something like overeating. In the back of
your mind, you know that bad routines can begin just that way. First
you say, "Hey, it won't hurt to miss just one or two days." Then, you
discover you haven't gained any weight which only reinforces the act.
Next thing you know, you stop weighing yourself and also stop
exercising.

But before then, you realize "hey, I'm missing out on the fun I was
having." And then you get back into it. Thursday and Friday were my
first full days back after losing a week to illness. Yes, I am feeling
my workout this morning, but it felt great last night.

You go along for what seems like just a few weeks, but low
and behold the actual time is a few months when finally something
clicks and you weigh yourself again and find you have gained 12 pounds.
Substitute overeating with not exercising and the same thing happens.

It's an easy lifestyle to backslide into, that's for sure.
