Could a man who was thin all his life easily become morbidly obese? I
have a friend who I grew up with. He was a stick thin kid growing up.
He was a thin teen and young adult. He was never an athlete but I
would say he was moderately active. At 23 he weighed about 120 lbs at
5' 6'' tall. He started gaining weight in his late 20's and now at
46 he weighs close to 300 lbs! I've never seen him eat huge amounts
of foods and he claims to eat the same kinds of foods he always has
ate. I am around him and in his house a lot and I see no evidence of
binge eating or abnormal eating habits. I have been on a few trips
with him was around him 24/7 and his eating habits were not that
different than mine. He eats a junk food or fast food occationaly. He
drinks a can or 2 of regular soda a day but he also eats a wide
variety of "good" food. He also walks his dogs everyday for 20 to 30
minutes. I have other friends and family that are very obese but they
tended to be overweight as kids and were fat all their lives. I've
never seen anyone as thin as my friend was, get this heavy.

Put your friend in a metabolic ward for 30 days and feed him only what
he claims he eats and watch the pounds drop off.

Sounds a lot like my story!

I've never seen him eat huge amounts
of foods

A person who eats one hundred calories too much per day, (less than half a
candy bar "extra" per day,) will gain about ten pounds a year. After twenty
years, thats... two hundred pounds! Your friend is a victim of eating about
two candy extra bars a week!!!!

and he claims to eat the same kinds of foods he always has
ate.

Well, there's the problem right there. When a person hits their mid 20's,
their metabolism slows down and it continues to slow down as long as they
live.

I am around him and in his house a lot and I see no evidence of
binge eating or abnormal eating habits.

Of course not. He's only overeating a little bit! If he cuts two candy bars
(or three/four sodas, whatever) out of his diet each week, in twenty years
he'll be skinny again.

If he's patient he can do it that way. If he wants to lose weight, and he
wants to do so more quickly, there are better/faster ways to go.

Put your friend in a metabolic ward for 30 days and feed him only what
he claims he eats and watch the pounds drop off.

LOL, I needed that, thanks! The foundation of success is, after all, doing
what you say you're gonna do.
