Confusing label!
Dreamfields new LC spaghetti shows 5 digestible carbs on the box. Hey, that
looks great but... Looking at the label it shows 42g of total carbs per 2 ounce serving. OK. Below that is fiber at 4g, sugar at 1g and 'controlled carbs' at 37g (adds up to 42). Looking at the ingredients, it shows sorbitol well down on the list, so I assume that is where the 'controlled' carbs is coming from. They must be subtracting the fiber as being part of the controlled carbs (sugar alcohol) to come up with the 5 'digestible' carbs; otherwise, there would only be 1 net carb from the sugar. Talk about confusing!!! It looks like fiber is listed twice, on its own and hidden as part of the controlled carbs! Maybe there is some truth in LC impairing brain function as this just don't add up to me.... Later, Dave ** 295/265/210 ** LCing since 3/1/04 |

Spaghetti is not low carb.

I don't know what, exactly, they claim to have done to prevent the
absorbtion of most of them, but the "controlled" carbs in it are starch. Starches are never listed separately from total carbs. This label won't "add up", because of what they claim to have done to prevent the absorbtion of most of the starch carbs. Several diabetics who test their blood sugar have reported that it didn't jack it up like regular pasta, and one (or maybe two) said that it did. Well, I will give it a try and see what happens. Maybe pasta can once again fit into the overall scheme of things (I hope so anyway). Dreamfield's web site was interesting reading (thanks Joan)... Later, Dave ** 295/265/210 ** LCing since 3/1/04 I've tried 3 of the Dreamfields pasta. The first day I cooked and ate them my BGL went up a lot. However the leftovers had no effect on me except for the penne pasta. Maybe it's because the penne is larger and more dense than the spaghetti and elbows. On a positive note it tastes exactly like the high carb stuff. I made a big pan of mac&cheese for a cookout and everybody snapped it up as soon as it hit the table. Nobody knew it was low carb because it looks, feels and tastes just like regular pasta. Rhonda |

Ok here is the deal....
Labels are just guidelines. If you want some pasta eat it. Be prepared for the effects and don't bitch, moan, or in any other way have some random bull**** emotional purge about it. Am I getting crotchety in my old age? Damn skippy. -- 370/295/270 Single malt scotch is awesome (NO it does NOT have carbs as DON'T vodka, gin, rum, bourbon, etc generally) Malt can be made low carb through the judicious use of yeast. Low carb beer? Uh...yeah. Read the books. You can have more than eggs for breakfast. Yes calories do count. Ketosticks are not neccessary to lose weight. Email: Actually my feet are big not medium. |
