Default Am I not normal?

No matter when I eat, and even though I eat very small portions...my
stomach is always bloated for 3 or 4 hours afterwards. Is this normal? I
drink very little liqud with meals, only a few sips to aid in
swallwing.
I have wanted to ask some of ya'll about this, but maybe this is
normal, then I'll feel udderly dumb or stupid (which is what JC says
about all my posts anyway).
I just sat down in recliner to log on, I can feel and hear the
substance in my belly "sloshing" and it is very uncomfortable. If I rock
or move around, or God Forbid, try to bend over....it feels as if I
shall throw up and can actually feel the food coming up into my
esophagus. The same thing if I attempt to drink any significant amount
of water or any other liquid more than 2 or3 oz at a time. How long
should it take normally for the stomach contents to pass into the
intestines.
I ate exactly 10 pork skins w/2Tbs sour cream and drank small glass
Atkins Peach Tea (ice cubes). I assume my stomach was relatively empty,
had eaten breakfast at 11:30 AM (6 hrs ago) which was 2 slcs. bacon and
1 scrambled egg. I have small cup that holds 6 oz coffee which is what I
drink and sometimes pour half of it out. I also have a problem eating
eggs, sometimes I cook it and just can't handle it. I feed it to the
cat. LOL I never ate breakfast before I started LC two months ago and I
am trying to make myself.
When I have dinner I will eat it in small portions...a few bites of
everything (4-5 oz meat and cup string beans, desert of SF Jell w/whip
cream). I leave it and go back and eat more a while later, then again.
Before bed I eat a snack and small glass of Soy Silk or Carb Countdown.
My stomach is always quesey at night, but can tolerate it better when
lying down and on my way to meet the sandman.
Having to eat this way, so my stomach won't feel sick all day, means I
actually eat 5 or 6 times daily. Do you suppose that is OK?
Before I stopped working I would go all day without eating, could not
work with tummy bloated for 4 hours.
Must be something wrong somewhere, 'cause still haven't lost any more
since the first month (6 lbs). I am still under 20 Carbs daily, Fat
60-90 gms, Cal 900-1200. According to info in Atkins and Southbeach,
that should cause weight loss even in sedentary LCers.
My physical activity is very limited because of Pulmonary Disability,
30 min Treadmill on good days.
I have been doing extensive research on the medications I am RXed.
Thinking back I distinctly remember starting to gain weight when I was
DXed with GERD and recurring stomach ulcers. That was 18 yrs ago, have
been taking Prevacid/Prilosec or some type of H2 blocker ever since.
I stopped taking it in Jan, had trouble getting Ins to pay for it. I
ended up in hospital with a tummy full of ulcers and had to take
Prevacid two times a day till it healed. I already asked the group about
their experiences with GERD. Most said they were able to completely stop
taking med for it.
I just wish I had better results, I found out last week that my
Cholesterol and Triglycerides have gone back up to 297 and 210. Doc
insists that I go back on 40mg Lipitor and Zetia. I just can't go that
route again, it makes me feel so bad, my legs and arms ache and can
barely get out of bed.
Somebody in the group asked me before if I was calculating my Carbs,
etc correctly. I use the Atkin's Carb Counter Book. If I can't figure
out what I'm doing or not doing correctly, I shall be happy to post my
daily menus for a few days and maybe you guys can show me what to "cut".
This post is already too long. Thanks for your suggestions and advice,
You too JC....and how about change it this time, I want a new one, not
your same old worn out, "Eat less, and exercise more."

It's a tumor.

It seems to be for you. You said you never ate much during the day
before, and forcing yourself to now doesn't seem to agree with you.
Snip
Having to eat this way, so my stomach won't feel sick all day,
means I actually eat 5 or 6 times daily. Do you suppose that is
OK?

If you're more comfortable that way it's fine.

You are a woman (strike one), short (4' 11") and therefore meant to
weigh less than most women (strike two), in your senior years - 59
(strike three) and not very physically active (strike four). Caloric
levels that should cause weight loss in sedentary low carbers were
predicated on people in the middle of the road on most factors.
You're not going to be able to use those parameters.

Snip
I already asked the group about their experiences with GERD.
Most said they were able to completely stop taking med for it.

If you've tried to stop the GERD meds and end up in pain then take the
meds. Would ending up with ulcers in the hospital (but thin) again be
worth it?

I just wish I had better results, I found out last week that my
Cholesterol and Triglycerides have gone back up to 297 and 210. Doc

That doesn't sound like much of a quality of life. What did your
doctor(s) say when you told them about the pain?

Somebody in the group asked me before if I was calculating my
Carbs, etc correctly. I use the Atkin's Carb Counter Book. If I
can't

A better source is either Corinne Netzer's "The Complete Book of Food
Counts" or (online):
http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/
A good kitchen scale is very helpful.

This post is already too long. Thanks for your suggestions and
advice, You too JC....and how about change it this time, I want a
new one,
not your same old worn out, "Eat less, and exercise more."

Actually Faye, in light of the factors I listed above (the four
strikes against you) eating less is good advice. You just don't need
the number of calories even most sedentary women your own age do. You
already try and get exercise, continue that and up it as you're able.
Yup, I am saying "Eat less and exercise more". Sorry ;-)

Take care,
Carmen

It doesn't have to be that hard.

In the morning, make yourself eat. Just a couple of eggs, maybe a slice of
cheese on it.

Later, try a salad. Drench it with dressing.

Much later, don't go hog-wild. Have a steak, some cooked veggies should be
in there, but just do it.

Lamenting about how things won't change does no good if you don't change
anything.

Now see what you did, JC? You got the others telling me to "eat less
exercise more." So I reckon I gotta do what I gotta do, and it's all
your fault, JC.
Whew, I feel a little better when I can blame my "fatdom" on
something else other than the fact that "every time my elbow bends, my
mouth opens."

I already asked the group

about
their experiences with GERD. Most said they were able to completely

stop
taking med for it.
Somebody in the group asked me before if I was calculating my

Carbs,
etc correctly. I use the Atkin's Carb Counter Book. If I can't figure
out what I'm doing or not doing correctly, I shall be happy to post my
daily menus for a few days and maybe you guys can show me what to

"cut".
This post is already too long. Thanks for your suggestions and advice,
You too JC....and how about change it this time, I want a new one, not
your same old worn out, "Eat less, and exercise more."
