Half-year report - and 50 lb milestone!

Default Half-year report - and 50 lb milestone!

Well, with all my frustration at the beginning of the week, where it looked
like I was gaining weight, things turned around and my weight dropped like a
rock every day for the rest of the week and I ended up losing 1.4 kg = 3.1
lb this week. Looking back over my logs since starting this seems to happen
every 5 or 6 weeks. So if I complain about a stall again you can just roll
your eyes and ignore me.

What did I change? Nothing at all. I'm just sticking with my calorie
counting and daily exercise as usual. I did actually end up eating a bit
over 2000 calories two days this week (still within my bonus) so if the
"Wendie Plan" proponents want to claim credit for that I won't argue with
them. My daily average calories for the week was still under 1700.

Of 26 weeks, things break down like:

* 22 weeks of weight loss
* 2 weeks of weight gain (in September)
* 2 weeks of no change (in July and August)

The total stats a

* 6 months / 182 days (a half-year without going off my diet even one time -
amazing for me!)
* Weight (kg): 125.0 - 102.0 (minus 23 kg)
* Weight (lb): 275.0 - 224.4 (minus 50.6 lb)
* MILESTONE! Lost more than FIFTY pounds!
* BMI: 41.3 - 33.7
* Percent body mass lost: 18.4%
* Percent complete to goal weight: 50% exactly (half done!)

Here is a summary of my diet method again, for reference:

(1) Low-cal plus exercise - 1700 calories/day limit plus 1000 weekly bonus
calories (avoids frustration of strict daily limit)

(2) Can carryover leftover calories to next day (add to bonus)

(3) Can subtract logged exercise calories from daily calorie intake (an
incentive to exercise)

(4) Bonus is reset each Friday to 1000 + anything leftover from 1700x7
calories from the week before.

Very cool for you. That's pretty much the way things go. A few days over,
a few days under and it all averages out the same. Look at someone like
Chris who can put away over 2000 calories on some days and then barely 1300
on others. I do the same thing. What's good is when you let your body
compensate for over/under eating and it all averages out.

Very cool for you. That's pretty much the way things go. A few days over,
a few days under and it all averages out the same. Look at someone like
Chris who can put away over 2000 calories on some days and then barely 1300
on others. I do the same thing. What's good is when you let your body
compensate for over/under eating and it all averages out.


Yep :-). I'm a big believer in allowing yourself to be human, but just
basically staying on track on a regular basis. And I do think shaking
up your metabolism helps. Incidentally, I think the same thing is true
of exercise. Doing the same thing every day -- even if it's pretty
arduous -- just lets your body become accustomed to it. I think it's
better to do different sorts of exercise on different days, and vary
your cardio among running, walking, hiking, biking, long/slow,
intervals, whatever.

Chris (who's had a couple of days of no exercise thanks to abscessed
tooth and then a long car trip!)

Nah, we'll just beat you up when you complain again. Just kidding. You
need to be easier on yourself but your obsessiveness has affected me.
I've begun to do detailed journals again. I may even look up calorie
counts.

I've heard that stress and frustration often causes weight loss stalls :-)

That is very true Beverly, Everytime I get to a point where I absolutely
want to lose those few lbs.. it doesn't work.. until I think to myself.. oh
what the heck.. it'll come off eventually as long as I stay on program.. And
the very week I tell myself that woooop ! I have a big loss..

Mind game.. you can play with numbers all you want but long lasting weight
loss is a mind game.. I'm lucky my mind's so easy to trick ! heheh
