Cauliflower Question
Hello everyone,
I have a question about cauliflower. My wife buys it for me for snacking on, but I've noticed that the head part gets brown spots pretty fast after buying it, is this safe to eat like this? I'm pretty picky when food starts changing colors and wanted to know what others think. I have been throwing away 60% to 75% of the cauliflower because I'm worried about getting ill by eating bad it. Thanks, Paul 300/218/175 |

Thanks, Paul 300/218/175 I've had good luck with buying bags of precut cauliflower and broccoli. That seems to stay fresh longer than when I bought a whole cauliflower. |

... Thanks, Last time I went to the grocery store I bought some precut veggies that included cauliflower, carrots, and broccoli in a small bag, but the cauliflower already had the brown spots on it when I opened the bag. Can't win for losing, Paul Did you check the date on the bag? I've noticed at my store they always put the old stuff in front, but sometimes in the very back they'll have a better date. |

Cauliflower Question
Thanks Chrys,
I did check the date and it was fresh, but I didn't check further back to see if there were newer dates. I'll check next time. I just want to make sure I'm not going to get sick or kill myself eating the brown stuff that builds up on the outside of the cauliflower. Paul "Chrys" wrote in message ... A tip I read on this list a while back: There's a product called EvertFresh bags ( http://tinyurl.com/2lusr ). These are great for storing produce -- keep it fresh **way** longer. I don't know if they're sold in stores, but I ordered over the internet. The bags can be washed and reused. Chris |

My cauli almost always gets a few rust spots, not rotton, just rusty spots before I get it all ate. If I know for sure the whole thing has a chance of not getting to my mouth I will vaccum seal half. -- --------------- starting 365 current 218 goal 200 hieght 6'3" NC In Da House --------------- |

Cauliflower Question
I eat a lot of cauliflower, but if it gets brown spots it either means
you're not buying them fresh enough or you're keeping them too long. When it happens to me I just cut the brown bits off, but if they've gone right through I throw the whole thing away. I doubt it does you any harm to eat the brown bits. janice 233/184/133 On Thu, 12 Feb 2004 14:35:57 -0600, "Paul" wrote: Hello everyone, I have a question about cauliflower. Thanks, Paul 300/218/175 I"ve learned that with any fresh veggies, that if I put a fresh paper towel in the zip lok bag and change it everyday, that my veggies last much longer. I can even keep fresh spinach 3 weeks this way.I also squeeze out all the air out of the bag that I can. Good Luck, Beverly B |
