Starting Atkins
Hi everyone
I have been reading the posts on this site for a while but this is the first time I have posted. I am starting a low carb diet tomorrow and was wondering if anyone had any tips. About three years ago I lost 80lbs. but have gained 40 of them back. When I first lost the weight it was easy but now I can't seem to styick to a diet for more than a couple days. I think that maybe if there is a place I can go for support and an occasional butt kicking it may help. Any advice would be useful. Thanks. |

what plan are you following - you didn't say? you can get lots of butt
kicking in here no worries. try not to get offended by JC's comments but uses his words as butting kicking devices, which is what he intended his words to be at most times. for tips stay tuned for daily tips posted LC tips by Rudy (RRzRR) and Saffire's weekly tips. warm welcome to you. ada |

Were you lo carbing, before? or low cal-ing?
If this will be your first experience with lo carbing---be prepared for a surprise! Like you, I couldnt make it a week, before, on any low-cal or low fat regime. To my delight, Im in my secnd month of Atkins, now, with nary a temptation to 'cheat"! The food we get to eat is so fabulous....and within a day or two, your cravings for bread, pasta, pastry, all those high-carb goodies, will just...vanish It's a miracle. Im serious! Jump on in--you're gonna love it! LassChance Start LC~5-16-05 202-?-165 (i'm scale phobic) |

I think that maybe if there is a place I can go for support and an occasional butt kicking it may help. Any advice would be useful. Thanks. Three bits of advice: 1) Really do an approach. Read the book or books to see what the programs really are; don't try to make it up as you go and sorta do it. Read the FAQ that Rudy puts up every day and spend some time wandering around in it. It's an encyclopedia of information for you to mine as you see fit. 2) Take everything you see here with extremely large grains of salt. Lots of people, all with different viewpoints, some utter nonsense and some smack-on. And everything in between. You'll be able to sort them out after a pretty short time. 3) Eat (within the programs) to suit yourself. On one hand, it's a chance to try new foods, if you're of that mind. On the other, you can find many, many foods you already eat that can fit into any of the low-carb approaches. From my viewpoint, having a bit of an adventurous spirit is a good idea. You'll be introduced to huge numbers of foods created or adapted for this approach, and they're yours to enjoy. And relax. It's not world peace or man's inhumanity to man. It's only your next meal and tomorrow's successes. Takes a little will power, but so does getting out of bed in the morning. Don't make it into a bigger deal than it is. And did I mention, relax...? Jump on in--you're gonna love it! Each person functions differently and comments like this set people up for a fall if they don't react exactly the same way. Some people's old ways never quite vanish. Encouragement better consists of a more balanced and realistic perspective. Pastorio |
