Vitamins without C?
My wife is about to start Atkins, and would like a good vitamin supplement.
Unfortunately, she is allergic to Vitamin C. Gets a skin rash from it. Does anyone know of a good multi vitamin which comes without this vitamin? Thanks. ****************************** Got wood? Check out my exotic hardwood pennywhistles at fair prices...http://www.Busmanwhistles.com |

Vitamins without C?
I have a feeling you're not going to find one. C itself is very
beneficial, but is also needed for other nutrients to work properly in your system. One feature of fitday.com is based on what you have eaten for the day, Fitday has a report letting you know if you fell short (or went over) on some specific nutrients. That might be handy for your wife, then she can just buy specific vitamins and minerals, avoiding C. BREWERPAUL wrote: My wife is about to start Atkins, and would like a good vitamin supplement. You can then sit down with a pen and paper, or even an excel spreadsheet, and then calculate what you need, and what pills you need to take, etc. you can also take supplements that come not from pills, but from ground herbs, roots, etc. This is cheaper than going the pill route, and you can also mix it up and drink it down, getting all you need in one sitting. I would look on a jamieson or Centrum website (if they exist, I am sure they do), and check out what is in their vitamins, then go to a small store that sells in bulk with a list of what you need, and ask someone who knows nutrition to help you stock up on what you need, and explain you want to be able to mix a few tablespoons into some good water, and drink it down. that way you get much needed water as well with your vitamins. |

Paul, I heard of several other cases like yours, and in both of them the patient ended up being allergic to either the coloring, binding agent, or source material in the pills they were taking. You come across as conscientious. Given that, I'll take a stab and guess that you're probably using "natural" vitamin C (and no, I'm not bad-mouthing it, it's a fine way to get it). Those kinds of concoctions often come with either or both: acerola cherries and rose hips. One of them or something in the matrix of the material she's ingesting is probably at the root of the problem. I'd suggest that you check into this a bit more. Being "allergic" to vitamin 'C' is very unlikely, since you can get more than your RDA simply from eating spinach; and that's not to mention fruits and other excellent sources of that very necessary vitamin. Given that you didn't mention them, I'm pretty sure that she's okay with vitamin C. If you want to find out if that's the case, and you don't want the expense of a doctor visit, you might just obtain some Ascorbic acid from a health food store. That's raw, un-mixed vitamin C. A small amount of that should be all it takes. HTH, DustyB -- -= Remove CARBS to reply =- |
